Just Visiting

Eastern Weyr - Main Clearing

The main clearing of Eastern Weyr is immense, a sprawling space carved out from the verdant jungle that is constantly threatening to encroach from the north and east. There are a few pathways paved with dark stone; otherwise, the ground is full of dust — or worse, mud, during the rainy season — due to the constant churn from dragons taking off and landing. The trees tend to be enormous affairs, sweeping the skies far above the heads of any dragons, with trunks bigger than a dragonlength around. Shaded by the surrounding foliage is the single feature that makes this area suitable for habitation: a series of large bubble caverns provide permanence and shelter for the inhabitants of this tropical Weyr.

At this late hour, electric lanterns with paper shades are lit, providing bright beacons against the thick tropical darkness. They highlight the main paths, and are strung festively from the rock of the main cavern. There's a faint glow from the doorway of the cavern, which is closed only in times of extreme weather. The cooler weather of winter has finally arrived on Eastern Weyr. Plants and animals resting and relaxing from their high production seasons and surviving through the late autumn early winter storms.

It's clear, cold, and windy. A faint glow falls upon the coast as overhead the moons appear to be in their full phase.

K'nan gives a nod to Kesti "You certainly do, though sometimes you're not able to hunt and that makes eating hard and when someone rescues you, you don't turn your nose up at them."

"That all may be true. But I'm still not eating snake brains unless it becomes necessary." Shena says defiantly, grinning. "So! What's the first thing I should do here in Eastern?"

Kestilran cannot help himself. "Eat something decent!"

"Nothing wrong with snake brains." Fiona's emergence from the commons is, seemingly, well timed, "Though I recommend the wherry." She must be on duty since she's wearing her green Phantasm wing jumpsuit and her wingsecond's knot, "Does your dad know you're out here, Kesti?" K'nan gets a silent, slightly scared look. It's /the/ K'nan. She coughs, "Sorry to interrupt, are you transferring or just visiting, miss?"

K'nan hmms a little "We do have some good food here, and I recommend the spiced cider as a drink as well. You can get it hard as well. It's also a good time to get to meet the others." she notes. There's a bright smile for Fiona "Fio my love!" she calls out "This here is," A pause "Shena, she's here Fort." she notes and then she grins at the girl "Course, we'd love to have you stay, it is as you say warmer here than Fort."

Shena gives Fiona a little smile, offering her hand. "Shena, from Fort. Pleased to meet you… and funny you both should ask. I'm just here on vacation, but I'm actually looking for a new place to transfer. And your weyr seems lovely."

Kestilran turns to see Fiona. "Duh…" he says. "He sent me out here to play because I did all my homework. Do you really eat tunnelsnake brains, Fiona?"

Kestilran's head turns a little quickly back to Shena when she says she's from Fort but he doesn't say anything.

Fiona smiiirks at Kestilran and waggles a finger, "A lady never reveals her secrets." She pauses a beat, "Especially a journeywoman technician. Gets rid of the mystery." K'nan gets another silent, appraising look before Fiona lets her pale eyes slide over Shena, "Well, enjoy your visit, journeywoman."

K'nan smiles brightly "It is lovely, isn't it. Course, I can't complain about my weyr up in the trees, such a view from there as well. Even with all the socks that I can't seem to ever get rid of."

Kestilran has a sollution for that too. "Make sock puppets?"

"You live up in the trees?" Shena looks quite charmed by that. "Huh. Is that just for riders, or can crafters live in the woods as well?" She looks back at Fiona and beams. "Thank you for the warm welcome."

Fiona blinks in rapid surprise at Shena, "Wa- you know what, never mind. Tree houses are available but the /sane/ members of the Weyr live on the ground. I didn't realized you'd moved back into the trees after that storm knocked your last one down, K'nan. Does Phaili like it as much as the old one?"

K'nan laughs brightly "Phaili's happy no matter what, and well, why should I let a little storm keep me down?" she asks with a tilt of her head. "I mean, why limit myself to what may or may not happen again? Twould be a poor way to live after all."

"Wait. The storms knock the houses down?" Shena is reconsidering this whole treehouse idea very quickly. "… Maybe a ground home would be better. Are there any near the water?"

"Well… if storms knock down trees and your house is in a tree, what would you expect?" Fiona gives the girl another once over, then shakes her head for K'nan's benefit, "I think so long as Phaili's there, you'll be happy, and I'll be beating you off my wingleader for turns to come. Yes, there are some older huts by the beach, but they require more maintenance."

Kestilran says "My Dad is an architect. He just redid a whole big hut for Tarrin, our baker." He reaches into his first pocket to pull out another peanut to offer to the long eared, long tailed orange fuzzy critter that perches on his right shoulder. "Here ya go, Fuzzball. Your house is in a tree, isn't it, little fellow." He smiles as Fuzzball reaches out to take the peanut using both his forepaws. Then he looks up at Shena and says, "You can get an old hut and have it rebuilt or just have a new one built."

K'nan smiles softly "Aye, where ever Phaili be, I'm happy." she notes and then laughs "Now why would you wanna keep me off your wingleader? Course I'd be happy with you too iffen that's what yer lookin fer." she notes sweetly.

"I suppose I should've thought that one through." Shena replies sheepishly to Fiona. "Hmmm. The beach… that may be more my style. I'm a Woodcrafter, I don't mind maintenance." One name mentioned has her blinking. "Wait… Tarrin lives here?"

Fiona glowers at K'nan, "You know full well, bl-" Then there's fuzzball. She eyes the feline very much like many would eye a tunnelsnake and starts backing away, "Keep that.. that /thing/ away from me, Kesti. Yes, Tarrin's one of our cooks."

Fuzzball reacts to Fiona's reaction to him by stuffing all the peanut into his mouth and clambering onto the back of Kesti's head, grabbing onto the boy's hair. "Watcha da claws! Watcha da claws!" Kesti yelps. He reaches up to try and pull his little forest friend free.

Shena edges back a little as Fuzzball starts clambering around. She seems a little wary of the creature. "I've met Tarrin. He's very nice." She remarks, a little nervous smile appearing.

Kestilran reaches up to the back of his head to try and slowly pull Fuzzball off the back of his head to save his scalp. He turns and walks away a few feet so Fuzz can't look at the other people while Kesti is trying to extract him. "You are not a hat!" he insists.

Fiona shakes her head at Kestilran's antics, "Does your father know you're playing with dangerous and untrained wild animals." Fiona is the Weyr spoil-sport, and the look she shoots Shena is a little dark, "He's nice, I suppose. Spineless, but nice." She takes another step back from the hairy beast.

Kestilran calls back to Fiona, "My dad…watch the hair, Fuzzy!…My dad says I'm as wild as they are and that's the way it's supposed to be…There!" He says as he finally get the wee beasty free. He snuggles the creature in his arms, cradling him while Fuzzball wraps his tail around Kesti's arm. "There, that's much better!" Muzzling on the part of both parties follows.

But Fio is a cute spoil-sport and K'nan is enjoying the show. "Hey Fio, iffen yer skeered of that critter, I'll protect ya." she notes as she pats her lap after setting her now oiled straps aside."

Shena continues to edge back away from the animal. She obviously has concern about the thing running around, as you might notice by her very uneasy smile. "You're sure it doesn't carry disease?"

Fiona gives K'nan the stink-eye to end all stink-eyes, "Not afraid of it, just don't want to swell up and start sneezing all over everything. Sharding felines. Give me a nice warm generator any day."

Kestilran says "Pretty sure. He's a vegetarian…mostly. Doesn't bite unless in self defense."

K'nan hmms thoughfully "Thought ya were just allergic to felines." she asks after a moment. "Likely a good think I didn't bring Phaili's latest kittens out with me to find them homes."

"The healers tell me dander's dander. Better safe than sorry." Fi runs a hand along her arm, "I'd appreciate you keeping the great fuzzy beasts far away from me."

Kestilran says "Dander, eh?" He rubs the little critter's belly. "I don't think he has any."
