Forbidden beach and burning bridges

Eastern Weyr- Beach
To either side, as far as the eyes can see, sand stretches out with darkling black fingers towards the caress of the brightly blue ocean that encroaches and retreats from the shore in gentle lapping waves. The jungle is dense, although it relents and thins along the border between sand and forest, and there is a clear pathway leading back towards the weyr. Animals and birds can often be heard rustling amid the bright foliage of the jungle.
The black of the sanded pathway shows the way through the emerald of the jungle towards the clearing as the light of day illuminates the entire beach, sunlight sparkling off the black-diamond brilliance and making the temperature seem all the higher. Summer has struck this coast paradise hard, the heat of the day neary unbareable without the shade and breezes, but the evenings made sweet with the smell of the coast.

There's very few places that the weyrlings can actually go, so it's of no surprise that Chi is not in one of those places. He and his brown are on the beach, Ansonth has his wings spread open wide and is flapping them lik he means to fly. "I don't really think that is gonna get you off the ground, Ansonth. Maybe try flapping harder?" Chi is standing near the brown, watching his attempts to take off into the air. The brown lets out a quiet snort, «It's not as easy as it looks, maybe if I jump?»

Once she's been fed, scratched, and oiled, Ceresth is still awake enough to go out exploring. So it's a trip to the beach she's calling for. Vanessa ambles along behind but once to the Weyrling beach it is discovered that Chi and his chocolate brown isn't there. Strange. After some searching they broaden their area to look towards the bigger beach. Ceresth walks with small hops alongside Vanessa. Her mind touch spreads out to Ansonth with the crisp scent of freshly cut grass and hay. « Here you are! We searched /everywhere/! What are you doing? »

«Attempting to fly, the older dragons make it look so easy. You shouldn't be here, little sister, we're aiming to disregard some rules.» Anson's voice reaches out towards the gold with the noise of a loud engine ready to veer into motion. Chi looks over his shoulder, offering a warm smile to Vanessa, "Heya, Nessa. Suprised to see you out here." Ansonth fixes his gaze towards the air and makes a hop into the air, flapping his wings madly but all it earns him is falling hard onto the sand. He lets out a creel in pain and Chi is on him to look over him. "It's alright, you didn't land that hard."

« Flying is for older dragons! » Ceresth says with some concern in her tone. Her whole body shivering she stretches out her wings to their fullest length and hops once though it's not with any real effort to get up off the ground. « You are here so I am here, Ansonth. » she adds. Her mind touch is quick and gentle, traces of blue swirls moving to wrap around Ansonth. « Breaking rules is fine but I will not see you get hurt. » she adds at the end of his creel of pain.

Vanessa isn't as calm as Ceresth though. Looking quite worried she crosses her arms over her chest. "You are both going to get into trouble and him hurt!" she says. "Oh do make him stop! Surely he'll listen to you!"

Ansonth shakes himself off and turns his neck around to peer at his wings, stretching the membranes out to get a better look at them. «I landed wrong, I can do it next time. I'm sure of it, I just need more height. Perhaps if we jump off a cliff. We need to find a cliff.» Apparently this is the line that Chi isn't qute ready to cross, "And what if you don't fly? You'll /fall/ and then you could seriously injure yourself. Look, I'm all for breaking the rules, but we'll beak them when you're a bit stronger." Chi glances over towards Nessa, shaking his head, "I was just going to let him get it out of his system. Show him he can't fly just yet. That's all."

Vanessa frowns, uncertain about Chi's reassurance. Especially as Ansonth seems to be considering something a bit more dangerous. Flexing her wings, Ceresth then folds 'em tightly against her back. Crooning softly she does a few hops towards Ansonth to nudge his side with her head. « No injuries! » she insists. Another nudge from her wedge-shaped head.

«I am not injured badly.» Ansonth assures the gold, giving her a fond chuff with his head and then considers the sky again. «I just need a high cliff with some good winds then I'll be flying.» Chi shakes his head and ducks under the brown's wings, examining them for injuries. "No. You're not going to go jumping off a cliff. That's suicidal. You'll just have to be content with being on the ground for a little while longer." He glances over towards Nessa, shaking his head slowly. "I kind of have an idea of what it's like to deal with me now at least." Chi laughs cheerfully, shrugging his shoulders. "What bring you out here, this isn't exactly where we should be, you know?"

There's a bubble of laughter from Vanessa at Chi's possible understanding of what it is like to deal with himself. "Well…." she giggles. "You often don't listen to reason." so far Impression to the Gold of the clutch has done one thing for Vanessa, it's starting to bolster her confidence. "You can't let him jump off a cliff!" she exclaims. "Ceresth…" she frowns in quiet concentration with the young gold. Lifting her head to creel out a strong sound she follows up her creel with firm words. « No, Ansonth! You must wait. » orders Ceresth, the 'little sister' of the clutch. Replying to Chi's question, Vanessa grins again. "Looking for you! I almost didn't think she'd be able to walk the whole way out here! She just finishing eating and getting oiled." indeed the deep honied hide is glistening with fresh oil.

Chi shakes his head in wry amusement as he glances towards the brown, a smirk pulling at his lips as he reaches out to run his fingers over the chocolate leathery hide. "Yeah, well, I don't mind it too much. So long as he doesn't go off getting stupid ideas in his head." Chi shakes his head and the brown lets out a soft snort. «Perhaps tomorrow I will be ready to fly. We will try again tomorrow.» The brown curls up on the sand, pulling his dark wings tight to his side and glaring up at the sky. "I'm not going to let him do that, are you crazy Nessa? Then what'd I do? I'd be without him, no, I'm not going to let him. Don't worry. He'll just have to wait." Chi smiles, plopping himself on the beach, "Well, I figured if he was going to attempt flying, this would be a good place for it, away from the weyrlingmasters and with some soft sand to fall on if he didn't make it."

Vanessa relaxes once she's sure that the brown isn't about to go rushing off to find a cliff for height. Ceresth too nudges the brown once more before moving off a bit. With a bit of a hop she sprawls suddenly forward and rolls once. The once glistening hide is now…sand covered. "CERESTH!" groans Nessa as she spies her queen's actions. "Oy!…" she shakes her head and plops down to the beach beside Chi. "I suppose if she falls asleep here it'll be safe enough." she glances upwards towards the sky to see how the weather will be holding up. « We should find some mud soon. » remarks Ceresth.

Ansonth tucks his feet under his chest, staring pointedly up at the sky, longing swirling in his green-blue eyes. Chi shake shis head slowly, pulling his legs back up to his chest as he watches the gold's antics with a quiet chuckle. "You can go back if you'd like. You don't need to stay here with us." Chi says with a little shrug of his shoulders. Ansonth turns his head to watch the gold for a moment, «I do not need to find mud, little sister, I'm pratically covered in it anyway.» Amusement twinges with the gentle revving of engines.

"Not a short walk back. We're here so may as well stay here." points out Nessa with a shrug and a bright smile. Ceresth is pretty well parked as well. And she's enjoying the sand quite a bit from the looks of it. With contented croon she is sprawled out completely. « I can not feel you across my hide though. » says Ceresth towards Ansonth.

Chi smiles as he watches the two dragons, glancing over towards Nessa "Yeah, sure, wouldn't mind the company anyway. I like your company." Chi sets his head on his chin, laughing as he watches the gold. Ansonth tilts his head as he considers the gold, «Why do you need to feel my hide against yours, little sister? Is something the matter?»

Vanessa beams brightly at Chi. Drawing her legs up she rests her chin on her knees and wraps her arms around her legs. "I'm finally getting used to the feeling of her you know. In my head." she tilts her head sideways a bit to peer towards the sprawled out gold. "I never imagined though. Honestly I thought perhaps if there was a life mate out there for me she's be green." admits Nessa.

Ceresth chuffs warm air into the sands to watch the effect on the sand. « You said I need not find mud because of you being covered in mud.» she pauses. « I wish to find mud to feel it upon my own hide! »

Chi smiles as he shifts his gaze back towards his brown, "yeah, it's kind of surreal, isn't it? I don't think I ever expected it to be like this. Or that a dragon would actually want me." He shakes his head slowly, "sometimes I think I'm still dreaming, you know?" He glances over at Nessa, laughing, "Yeah, I never pegged you to be a goldrider, but you are, no turning back now." Chi smiles widely, letting his gaze wander back to the dragons. «No, little sister, I said that I had no desire to have mud on me as I am plenty brown already without mud covering my hide.»

"What makes someone look like a gold rider I wonder?" Vanessa asks with all honesty in her tone. "During candidacy we learned about the various wings and duties and I wanted to be a good rider no matter what color. But…" clearly she never even dreamed of Impressing the one gold within the clutch. "What makes a good Goldrider?" she turns a worried expression to Chi. "What if I'm not good enough? I'm not even Weyrbred! I don't know anything about what it means to be a Goldrider, really. Other than the basics. I mean I know that only Goldriders become Sr. Weyrwoman and whoever catches the Gold becomes Weyrleader." Ceresth whuffs again into the sand. « Oh! Then I still need to find mud. » she stretches out a bit more. « The sand feels good. It rubs deliciously against my itches. You should try this! »
Chi shrugs his shoulders, reaching out to run the sand through his fingers thoughtfully, "Dunno, just diidn't peg you for a gold. Green, maybe, but not gold." Chi murmurs thoughtfully, "Especially since Silna has a bit of a crush on you." He glances over towards Nessa thoughtfully. "You'll be fine, Nessa, I'm sure they'll teach you everything you need to know about being a goldrider. Just like I'm sure they'll teach the rest of us everything we need about being a good rider." Is Chi going to listen to any of it? Probably not. Ansonth lowers his muzzle to sniff at the sand and then lets out a loud sneeze as the tiny particles tickle his nostrils. I don't see how you can like this stuff, Ceresth, it gets everywhere. I am going to need a bath after this.

« To be dirty means you worked hard. » intones Ceresth. « I like the feel of it. Perhaps i'll insist on daily trips to the beach. » obviously these trips won't be meant for bathing.

Offering a slow breath of air out, Vanessa can only nod her head in agreement to Chi's words. "Yeah…I know they'll teach me. I still worry though that i'll be good. But Ceresth informs me everyday that my entire life was meant to end up here. Just for her." at the mention of Silna, Vanessa offers a bit of a shrug. "Silna's just a friend now. My first one here at Eastern actually." she glances sideways to Chi and smiles. "You'll be good. I can tell."

«Sometimes one works hard towards different things. I will fly, and I will work hard to fly. No one will stop me from flying, I will be the youngest dragon in the air. You just watch.» Ansonth's gaze shifts towards the sky, shifting restlessly almost as if the brown were about to try again at flying. Chi lets out a quiet sigh, shaking his head, "Good? What if being good means different things to different people?" Chi asks, glancing over at Nessa with a smirk. "Maybe I will be good, but not in the way you think. Stop worrying so much, your gold wouldn't pick you if you weren't up for the task."

« All dragons will fly. » Ceresth snorts from where she is sprawled out in the sands. « Hard work /shows/ though when you are dirty. » insists the Gold who thinks she's one of the boys.

Vanessa shifts positions, moving to stretch her legs out before her and lean back to rest her weight on her palms behind her. "Good. I dunno. I want others to think I'm good." a shoulder lifts in a faint shrug. "I know I shouldn't worry. I'm trying to stop before it gets /her/ worried." she glances towards the young queen.

«I will work harder tomorrow to fly, I will be in the air long before anyone else is. Ain't nobody gonna hold me down, little sis. Tomorrow I will fly.» The brown pushes himself to his feet, fanning his wings open and staring purposely towards the sky. Chi lets out a quiet sigh, pushing himself to his feet. "You're going to get hurt again, Ansonth." «No, I will fly this time. I was born to fly.» A glance is given towards Nessa, "You'll be fine. I have every confidence in you. Where's all that positive energy you had before hatching?"
Along the pathway to the beach S'ic slowly walks along towards the water. The bronzeriding harper, carries a large portfolio bag, and instrument case slung over his back as he goes. Spotting the weyrling on the beach he gives them both a nod, his expression tightening just a bit on seeing Chi though. Above the giant form of Xtzaltuth glides silently over, circling in for a landing a short distance away. «Greeting young ones.»

Vanessa ducks her head a bit shly. "I'm still positive!" she insist quickly. As Ansonth gets to his feet then Ceresth also starts to lumber to hers as well. However before she can say anything in regards to the brown's insistence to fly, a bronze is curling and coming to a landing. « Greetings and hello! » says Ceresth with a warble of welcome. Vanessa's gaze snaps over towards the approaching rider and she hops to her feet quickly. She salutes, though it's a bit uncertain. "Good morning rider."

Chi moves in front of the brown, reaching out to rest his hands on the brown's shoulders, "No, Ansonth. No flying. Not today, not tomorrow. You can do your wing strengthening, but no flying." Chi stares down the brown who finally relents and lets out a quiet snort of distaste.«I will practice then. I will build up my strength, but I will not be stopped when I am ready to fly.» As the bronze wings in, Chi lets out a quiet groan when he notes who it is. S'ic is certainly not going to be getting a salute from the weyrling and Chi simply moves away from the brown to allow him to practice moving his wings. "Good, you're going to need that positive attitude of yours, Nessa. Stop worrying, think positively. If you worry, you'll doubt yourself and you'll fall."

S'ic gives Vanessa a smiles and returns the salute, his eyes flicking to Chi for a moment but decides to ignore the lack of salute. "Good morning. How are the pair of you this morning?" his eyes moving from the weyrlings to there dragons, "your lifemates are looking good." Xtzlatuth looks curiously to the brown moving his wings «Practice hard young one build your strenghth. Do not try to fly to soon though, make sure your strength is there first. Others have tried, and ended up injured. They did not fly for much longer because of it»

Vanessa beams a bright smile, unable to keep the shining, prideful gaze away from Ceresth for too long. "Ceresth and I are doing well, thank you rider." an elbow nudges Chi. "You should salute." she whispers quickly. "How are you this morning? It's a beautiful day for a walk on the beach." her gaze shifts curiously towards the bag and instrument case that S'ic carries.

"I'm not doing anything," Chi mutters under his breath, "Least of all salute /him/." Chi rolls his eyes and lets out a quiet snort. Ansonth is in no better mood to deal with the bronze and he lts out a warning rumble that sounds like the revving of engines, «I will do as I please and no one, least of all you, is going to tell me what to do. I was born to fly, and I will fly, no one will tell me differently.» The brown's wings fan out and he hops up into the air, flapping them hard as he does so.
S'ic looks to Chi and says, "I see you still haven't learned to be polite." he smirk before looking back to Vanessa, "Don't worry about him, he enjoys getting in trouble, and seems his lifemate is going to be one that enjoys getting hurt."

Vanessa frowns at Chi briefly but doesn't try any more to get him to do something he doesn't. Turning her attention back towards S'ic she manages a weak smile. "I'm Vanessa. I don't think we've met before." and if they have, well she's forgotten!
"And I see you haven't learned to keep your sharding nose out of my business." Chi shoots back towards the rider with a deep frown pulling at his lips. "Course, last I checked, we're not even supposed to be on this beach with our dragons so she's just as much breaking the rules as I am." He turns his gaze back to his brown, pointedly ignoring the bronzerider. Ansonth lands hard on the sand, letting out a quiet annoyed growl as he shakes himself off. «A cliff, I just need a cliff and a running start.»

S'ic smiles and says, "That is possibly true. But did was I saying I was turning you in for that? Nice to see you are trying to get your fellow weyrling in trouble with you.." he smirk to Chi and say, "As for my businiss, your being rude to a rider is my business, i will be bringing it up to the weyrling masters. He glances to the brown and says, "I would keep him under control if I where you, Let him try to fly to soon and he could damage himself perminately, and may never fly."

Vanessa cringes a bit and quickly shoots a Look to Chi. "Chi!" she hisses under her breath, certain that now the wrath of S'ic is going to fall upon them. Though as S'ic continues and doesn't seem to be turning them in for not being on the Weyrling beach she relaxes a bit. Casting another glance towards the Gold reveals that the quiet from her means she's fallen fast asleep. Looks like someone will be staying here a while longer regardless. "Oh no..never fly!?" she gasps worriedly towards the brown.

"So go ahead and speak to my weyrling masters. What are you going to do, get my knot taken away from me? That's not exactly going to happen, you know, they're not going to kick me out because I'm disobeying rules." Chi rolls his eyes, wrapping his arms about his chest and nudging the brown. "No cliffs, we talked about this. Don't let that stupid bronze egg you on, we agreed on this you're only strengthening your wings. You can show off when you get stronger and prove that stupid bronze that you were born to fly." A hand reaches out to place on the brown's neck, "Well, then tell that sharding bronze of yours to cut off the lectures. He's just going to fight it even more. And I didn't make Nessa come out here, she came out here on her own accord."

S'ic smirks and says, "I didn't say you did, I said it is nice of you to point out that she is breaking the rules too." he says, "And no they won't kick you out for breaking the rules, they will get you extra duties. may well never graduate you from weyrlinghood, and while Xtzaluth there can't stop him from trying to fly, one of the queens can." he smirk, "You are a idiot you know that, someone tries to tell you something for the safety of your lifemate and you only think of it as an attack. the mark of a spoiled little brat." he looks away from Chi pointedly and says to Vanessa, "Sorry about that." ignoring the other weyrling now, "It is nice to meet you, I am S'ic, Bronze Xtzaluth rider." he extends a hand pleasantly to her, his demeanor with her completely different.

"I was just looking for you." Vanessa says with an exasperated huff towards Chi. Sitting up a bit more she reaches for the hand that S'ic offers. "It's good to meet you bronzrider, S'ic." a sideways glance towards Chi then back to S'ic. "He's not meaning any harm! He wouldn't let Ansonth get hurt." this much she is sure of. Ever the defender of the Chi. "Ceresth told him she didn't think he should try flying yet."

Chi turns his back on the bronzerider, glaring down at the sand, Ansonth lets out a loud rumble, picking himself off of the ground to place himself between S'ic and his rider. "You're going to upset him, rider, do you want to do that? He doesn't exactly like it when people treat his people like crap." Ansonth curls his lips up, showing his teeth at the rider. "Sorry, being a spoild brat would imply that my parents actually liked me. Sad to say, they didn't. Of course you're going to come up with some witty comment, but I don't give a flying wherry. Go bug someone else." Chi reaches out to place his hand on the brown, who continues to stare pointedly at the bronzerider. Hurt his person and he'll cut you!

S'ic nods and says to Vanessa, "Well hopefully the two of you can be a good influence on them." he completely ignores Chi's comments, and his lifemates actions, "Really, I don't mind that you all are out her, you should try to stay closer to the barracks in case that happens again." he points to the snoozing gold, "The people around her do care about what happens to you all."

Vanessa casts a loving smile towards the slumbering gold. "She gets tired so quickly." declares Vanessa. "We'll stay closer." she promises earnestly. Casting another glance towards Chi and Ansonth she decides against saying anything more in perhaps hopes that the brown will calm down. As well as his rider.

Chi rolls his eyes in annoyance as he leans up against his brown, snorting quietly at the bronzerider's words. "Yeah, you only give a flying wherry about her because she impressed gold." Chi shakes his head as he wraps his arms about his chest, glancing up at the sky. Ansonth lets out another warning rumble to the bronzerider and his bronze, curling up protectively about his person.

S'ic looks to Chi for just a moment before looking back to Vanessa, "It is a beautiful lifemate you have there." but in answer to Chi statement, "But it would have been pleasure to meet you even if you hadn't impressed. Having a dragon doesn't make you a better or worse person to know, some of my best friends, didn't impress."

Vanessa casts a hurt look to Chi. "Not true! I've made friends before the hatching." frowning she turns her back to Chi. "Ceresth tells me all the time that all my travels from when I left home were supposed to lead me here to her. I'm made just for her. She makes me better! But I don't want people to like me just 'cause of her. I would be the same even if I Impressed Green." she pauses a moment. "Or brown." a firm nod is given. "I didn't expect to impress her at all!"

Chi pushes himself to his feet, rolling his eyes. "Right, let's let these two love birds schmooze each other. Who needs them anyway." Chi snorts quietly, nudging his brown with his foot, "C'mon, lets go back to the barracks before you fall asleep to. Nessa, don't follow me anymore." That last part said, Chi and Ansonth make their way out.

S'ic shakes his head slowly as Chi departs, looking to Vanessa and says, "I really hope you all can break though his shell. And keep him from doing anything that is going to get his lifemate hurt." he puts on a smiles, "But anyways, you are right, while I love Xtzaluth I wouldn't want people to like me just because I ride bronze." he looks to the sleeping gold again before saying, "Anyways, what I actually came out here to ask you. Well it was going to be asking you both is, Would you like a portrait of your lifemate? My specialization with the harpers is art.."

Unshed tears brighten Vanessa's eyes as she watches Chi heading out. Sadly she comments to S'ic. "He would never let Ansonth get hurt." stifling a sigh she looks away from the weyrling pair. "A portrait of Cerest?" she perks up a little as she looks to the sleeping gold. "I would love one oh yes!

S'ic looks to Vanessa and nods, "Oh I don't think he would intentionally let him get hurt, i am more afraid that though his stuborness, and not wanting to listen to the weyrling masters he is going to cause it to happen. He seems to think he is a law to himself." he shakes his head but then puts back on the smiles, "it would be my pleasure, I was going to offer it to all the weyrlings."

Vanessa shrugs a bit, her expression still quit downcast as Chi's parting remarks. Still though she tries to reign in her emotions a bit since she sees they are starting to wake the youngest Eastern queen. Stirring, Ceresth doesn't awaken yet but it's close. "That's so very nice. Can you do one of her when she's older too? So I can compare?"

S'ic smiles and nods, "I would be more then happy to. It is my calling." he smiles though noting her expression, "i wouldn't take what he says to heart Vanessa, he is a prickilly one. And gets more so when he doesn't get his way."

Vanessa manages a weak smile. "I know he doesn't mean to hurt. He just doesn't realize how his words hurt sometimes. That's all." Ceresth lifts her head. Someone's awake! With a cry of happiness Vanessa rushes over to embrace her head, whispering words of joy and love to the golden beauty.

I know he doesn't mean to hurt. He just doesn't realize how his words hurt sometimes. That's all." Ceresth lifts her head. Someone's awake! With a cry of happiness Vanessa rushes over to embrace her head, whispering words of joy and love to the golden beauty.
S'ic smile as he watching Vanessa with her lifemate and says, "Just let me know when would be good for the two of you and I will see about getting that done for you."
Vanessa caresses under Ceresth's eye ridges several moments before turning a shinning gaze towards S'ic. Clearly the awakening of Ceresth has erased any upset emotions that Vanessa had. "I'll let you know. It's a very generous offer indeed. Thank you! We should get back to the barracks though before we get into any trouble."

S'ic smiles and says, "You are very welcome, don't worry I won't say anything about you being out here."

Vanessa beams brightly. "Thank you!" with that she and the gold start homewards to the barracks.
