A Chance Meeting

Monaco Bay Weyr - Cove Beach
Sparkling black sands are gently washed over with crystal blue waters, creating a playful blend of colors that twist and meld under the alternating rays of sun and moon. The cove stretches out from the mouth of the river towards the ocean, mixing saltwater with fresh for an invigorating rush that teems with life.

The coast curves eastward, the waters growing more quiet along the broad expanse of beach before finally meeting a large cove. Here there are few waves, the ocean's movement reduced to little more than slight swells. What might have been an idyllic and peaceful area however, is interrupted by a brilliantly gleaming structure that stands on the edge of the sands.

Large steel poles soar upwards, supporting a staircase that leads to a pair of water slides. The height of the structure is remarkable, standing at a height comparable to that of a small gold dragon. Pipes pump water upward, creating small pools at the entrance of both plastic blue slides. The rush of water moves with the slides, following their twisting course downwards while easing their passenger's journey. Parts of the slides are open and others covered, creating a thrill for each voyager before unceremoniously dumping them into the still waters below. For the safety of all patrons, a large net has been drawn across the mouth of the cove to prevent any accidental drifting away.

Not far from the slides is a small stand that also seems to have been built just recently. A menu is posted on its side and displays a variety of drinks and snacks for beach goers.

A truly beautiful spring day at Monaco Bay, and cool enough that everyone who's anyone is out and about, littering the beaches sporadically with towels and blankets just out enjoying the clear skies and calm sea. Deldrin is among them, with a book open over his lap set a bit away from everyone else, his enormous jade hued eyes focused on the raven haired six turn old just there not too far away making sandcastles by herself. "How's this one, Del?" The boy offers his sister a big thumbs up over his head, which seems to please her immensely, quickly getting back to it. Well, boy may be a relative term. That there could be either really with looks edged precariously toward female and clothing hinting not either way.

A high-pitched squeal proceeds that of a little two Turn old that comes running down the path to the beach. Well sort of running. Sometimes her feet get the best of her and she topples downwards. "Uh oh!" is said almost everytime she does fall, but she's always back up again. "Ravy! Stay with me." Krysa waddles along behind as she tries to keep up with her humongo belly making things difficult. Ravy stops briefly each time and then yells back "Mama! Fishies!" and then is back off down the beach. Once beach is hit, sand sliding along, slows the little one down a little, mainly because the stops every now and then to lean down to pick up sand and let is drain through her fingers. Krysa catches up and she she lets out a breath and then eyes her belly "Shards, but I'll be happy when you're out. You're getting heavy."

Deldrin merely glances off towards the mother and her child, tilting his head to the side, but because he doesn't know her at all he soon goes back to to glancing at his book and keeping one eye on his little sister. Bella pays the incoming family no mind at all, far too busy applying small smooth stones and seashells to her little project. "Done!" she says enthusiastically, throwing her arms up into the air, just in time for the tide to lick away the base and the entire thing crumbles shortly thereafter. "Awwww, Del…the water ate my weyr…" Deldrin giggles, closing his book and setting it aside, "It ate your weyr?" She looks over with her enormous golden eyes and nods sadly, her shoulders sinking. Her brother offers a sympathetic smile, waving her over. "Nevermind it then, come over and I'll fix your hair." Dragging herself to her feet, Bella slumps her way over dramatically as children her age are prone to do and flops down into Deldrin's lap, letting her brother take out her messy runnertail, deciding to braid it instead.

Ravysa has no fear when it comes to going up to who she wants too and this time she's chosen Deldrin and his little sis. She's watching him braid the girls hair and then she's wanting to climb into his lap. Except Krysa manages to get there and snag her back and up. She groans just a little as she settles the girl on her hip "Now Ravy, you just can't go climbing into peoples laps, and she has someone in her lap anyways. Now say you're sorry." Ravy stares back at Deldrin and Bella and then sighs "I sowwy. I wants hair tangle too!" she makes a little bit of a face and starts squirming. Krysa struggles a little and then sets the girl down on her feet while holding onto her hands, or tries too. Instead Ravys feet just stop working. And thus dangles until Krysa decides to plop her down on her butt and well Ravy throws a small fit and throws herself backwards, into the sand. Krysa just sighs. "Sorry about this." She looks down at Ravy and just shakes her head but makes no move to pick the girl up or even really react.

Bella turns her head towards Ravysa when the toddler approaches, trying to wedge herself between herself and her brother, to which Deldrin tsks as the braid he was attempting is pulled out of his hands with the movement and quickly falls part. At being called 'she' the boy just giggles, but its the girl that gets a sour look on her face, "Deldrin isn't a girl, he's a boy." she huffs, putting tiny fists to her narrow hips and glaring in protest up at the very pregnant stranger woman. "Bella, shhh. It's fine." Bella has other ideas of course, "No, it's not fine. It's stupid. You're a boy, I don't get why people keep thinking your not." An apolagetic smile which only worsens the illusion is cast upwards at Krysa, "It's fine." is mouthed, before he turns his sisters head back for her and gets back to quickly braiding the length of all that dark babyfine hair. He ties it off, and promptly wraps his arms around her for a long affectionate hug. "It's fine." he laughs, "Now go play silly girl." Frustated with her siblings seemingly endless patience, she scoots herself out and huffs off to collect all those shells and things all trapped in the wet lump that was once her sandcastle. Ignoring them ALL! "No, I'm sorry. She's…overprotective…" he says to the woman, sweeping up the wailing child beside him with practiced ease and pulling her against his body, patting her back and bouncing her a little. "Shhhh now, you're alright. I'll braid your hair too if you'd like, though I don't have anything to hold it in place."

Well, Krysa certainy has the grace to look a little embarrassed. "My apologies, that'll teach me to not really pay much attention." she murmurs, letting her voice carry as she does. Ravy on the other hand goes stiff and then she's limp as she finds herself in a lap all of a sudden. Tantrum is forgotten as she looks up at Deldrin "Braid?" she asks curiously. Krysa rolls her eyes at the sudden mood change "At least she's easily distracted. Shame I don't have any ribbons on me, though she tends to just pull them out anyways. I'm Krysa by the way and that little one you have there is Ravysa." She looks over towards Bella and smiles "And well, I can understand her protectiveness. I should know better, but my brain has been little more than mush these past few sevenday. Not that is realy a good excuse."

The boy simply shrugs, "I'm used to it and besides, I'm not really old enough for it to matter to anyone what I am either way." Another giggle for that, soon extended to the little he situates in his lap the second that she calms down and begins gently weaving his long fingers through her hair, pulling it back from her face. "Hair tangles, sweetling," he says, but then flicks jade eyes up at Krysa. "Well met, I'm Deldrin and pouty pants over there is Bella, we're Senior Journeyman Ladella's oldest and youngest. I have twin younger brothers, but they're at special harper lessons today otherwise they would probably be terrorizing everyone." There's a brow twitch and a strained smile for that, keeping up with the braiding back there for as long as Ravysa will sit still.

Krysa ahs a little and nods "Okay then." Yeah, crafter names go right over her head, but she's not admitting to anything. "I'd introduce you to my green, Haeyaneth, but it's just as well that she's off hunting. She's not the most sociable of dragons." Ravy sits, but not very still as she keeps trying to turn her head to watch. Which really doesn't work out very well when it's the back of your head "Hair tangles! Yay!" she exclaims though and kinda bounce a little in excitement.

Deldrin doesn't seem to mind all that wiggling, merely starting again when she pulls the hair out from between his fingers, giggling helplessly at Ravy's high level of adorableness. He doesn't even remind her to sit still, because without a ribbon or elastic the styling wasn't going to stay anyway as the reason he was doing it in the first place is to placate her anyway. Making some progress over there, the toddle moves her head, ruins it, and just makes Del laugh again before he starts all over. Still listening to Krysa, he flicks his eyes at her as she speaks, but for the most part is focused visually on watching what he was doing. A pretty smile draws up the corner of his lips, a strange sense of calm and reassurance emanating from him despite the implication the woman's green would not be amiable. "Who knows, we might get along famously. She sounds a lot like Szayelth, my grandfather's green, she wasn't very friendly either." He looks to Ksysa, "Or not, but it wouldn't mean I wouldn't give it a try anyway."

Krysa can't help but laugh and shrugs a little "You're always welcome to try, she is partial to rum though, if that's any help." she murmurs softy and then eases herself down on the sand, having gotten quite tired of standing. It's a bit awkward, but she managed. Though she may end up staying there until E'vyl is done with wing duties and he comes with a dragon crane. "It's not so much that she's unfriendly." A pause "Well, sometimes she is, she just plain doesn't care for people." There's a pause "No, sometimes she's just a little cruel. She once wanted to watch and see a man drown instead of rescuing him."

Delicately arched brows lift upwards right before Deldrin tilts his head to the side, "Can dragons drink that and not get sick?" he asks, seeming concerned now for the absent green and her proclivity to imbibe in alcoholic beverages that weren't even all that healthy for people to partake of in the long run. He watches the heavily pregnant woman lower herself to the sand, unable to help the transition considering the child sitting on him and his desire to keep her happy instead of thrashing around and crying. It was a beautiful day! People should be happy! A giggle soon escapes him anyway as Krysa explains her lifemate, "Szayelth used to knock over our sandweyrs, steal our toys and hide them, and snap at us to make us cry. She's also would rather have watched someone drown rather than save them." Heaving a sigh fondly, the boy returns to braiding and rebraiding his tiny captive's hair.

Ravy is a happy captive, and with Haeyaneth being talked about she bounces even more "Hayneth fun!" the little one exclaims in defense of her favorite green and Krysa can't help but nod. "Haeyaneth does have a soft spot for Ravy and she's been crooning to my belly now that she knows what it means. It's kind of weird. Anybody else and she could care less. She's never been one for knocking things over or anything like that. She'd just rather not be bothered by people. She does have a sweet spot though, she loves watching sunrises and things." Ravy does some vigrous nodding "Rainbows!!" There's laugh from Krysa "Oh yes, she has these little prisms that E'vyl got her. She loves watching the little rainbows. As for the rum, it's never made her sick. Their metabolism is a bit different than ours, so that could account for it."

"Hmmm, I'm not sure Szayelth had a soft spot for anyone other than Tzimisceth, that was grandpa's weyrmate's bronze." Deldrin manages to get through that mouthful with some effort, exhaling when it was all over, because try saying that three times fast. He smiles broadly and nods to Ravy, "She sure sounds like it! What's your most favorite thing about Haeyaneth?" he asks her, though soon those huge jade colored eyes the way of her mother, offering her a nod as well. "They are your children, yes? Perhaps its because that they are yours and come from your body that she's taken a shine to them." More giggles come for the enthusiastic exclamations coming from Ravysa, smoothing her hair away from her face as another braid comes undone and he has to begin again, "She sounds nicer than Sazayelth, all she ever seemed to do other than torture us was curl up in a ball and hiss at everyone."

There's a bit of a dreamy smile on Krysa's face "Oh, Haeyaneth has her moments, but she really is a dear. Probably it is because they are my children. Though come to think of it, I don't think she's really been around any other children." She loooks thoughful and hmms a little. "Might just have to see how she reacts. She doesn't hiss, though she smy growl a bit. She does like to try and bite Marzoth. But then she always has." she can't help but laugh "And now she's extra annoyed with him since he scared Ravy out of a dead sleep." She looks at her daughter who's happy as a clam. Though who can tell if a clam is happy? "At least she doesn't seem to remember it." AS for Ravy "Hayneth sleeps with me!"

Deldrin bobs his head, smiling softly over at Krysa. "Bella is the youngest at six, the twins are nine, and I'm tweleve. None of us are phased by being unliked by dragons, so if we can be of any help, just let me know." The offer made, he goes back to playing with Ravysa's hair, checking on Bella over there who was still sulking as she pulled stones and shells out of wet sand. Pointedly, she has her back to the gathering on the blanket, but her brothers give her no further personal attention now that she's being bratty. There is only the briefest of head shakes before he returns to the conversation with the greenrider, "Oh no!" he worries, pausing in his efforts to tame the girl's hair in order to wrap his arms around her and give her a very gentle squeeze. "She does? How special is that? What a lucky and pretty girl you are, Ravysa." he praises her, soon back to braiding again. "We're all fortunate that dragons don't have a long memory. Can you imagine the grudges over lost flights?" A giggle for this.

Krysa hmms a little "I dunno about grudges over lost flights, but I'm just glad there's not grudges over won flights. At least not so far." she grins though as Ravy just beams madly. "Special!!" she entusiastically agrees "She protects me from the scary one." There's a slight frown that crosses Krysa's face as she glances at her daughter a moment, but leaves that tidbit to be addressed another day. However, there is something else. "Help?" she murmurs and grins "Well, I certainly know what help I could use. Ravy could use someone to come by and look after her. She is much happier with all the critters that E'vyl has picked up." She rolls her eyes a little.

It could be said either way and so after a moment of thought, Deldrin lets it go rather than saying that outloud. He'd been taught manners after all, and part of them was never to argue semantics with an adult. It was just rude. Instead he devotes himself almost entirely to Ravysa, smoothering her with all the affection she could ever want or need despite having only met her today. "Yes, that's right! You're very special!" he coos, casting a sideways glance towards Krysa for the 'scary one' comment and seeing her frown. "You know," he says seemingly at random, "My mother is a mindhealer who specializes in children Ravysa, and she's very very pretty. Would you like to meet her sometime?" he asks, obviously this was meant for the girl's mother rather, but he keeps the tone as soft and soothing as possible as if he were speaking to her. "I could do that, if you'd like, as long as you don't mind picking her up and dropping her off."

Ravy tries to turn to look at Deldrin "Wassa mindhealer?" the little girl asks curiously "She pretty like you?" Krysa tilts her head a little "That could be fun." she says with a smile "You might just like her, and I certainly wouldn't mind taking you to see her." she says smoothly. Ravy claps her hands gleefuly "Wanna see the pretty lady!"
