Swagger in Style Bronze Varugoth

Dragon Description

Despite his imposing build, there is nothing bulky or awkward about the way this huge bronze has been put together. His deep, powerful chest is a study in elegance, and there is not a trace of unbecoming baby fat along the burnished length of his abdominal tuck. Though his coloration is bright, there is little of the usual greenish hue usually found on those of his color. Rather, he tends towards warm hues: a splashy warm copper wraps him from his prominent, chiseled jaw all the way down to the arrogant curve of his whip-thin length of his tail. Down his blunted neckridges and across his broad shoulders is a dappling that is brighter yet: pure gold, unmistakable in hue. And yet, there are hints of darkness in the curving length of his deep-bronze talons and in the hide that darkens, shadow-like, at his joints. Above all, though, is the tainted glory of his wings: huge, scalloped sails, they seem a shadowy mirror for the warm, dappled length of the rest of him as copper takes on a dark wash, and those bright sun-gold dapples turn distant and pale as Timor.

Egg Name and Description

Screaming Meemies Egg

If you have ever been in a spooky cavern with dark shadows overlapping darker shadows, this egg might look familiar or call that place to mind. Dark greys overlap darker greys and some sections of the egg just seem plain black. Though sometimes the egg gets turned over and a few lighter spots appear, like the light of Rukbat reflecting off of one of the moons. It makes a pattern that looks like a dragon with no tail or neck is winging its way across the moon, silhouetted while the wings are outstretched from side to side.

Hatching Message

Screaming Meemies tries the same tactic again, this time with a twist: literally. As it heaves against the long axis of the shell, the egg begins to spin in place end-over-end in a confusing whirl of dark colors. There is only so much punishment an eggshell can take, though, and all at once it seems to fly apart into a million dark pieces and leaves a trembling dragon of bronze perfection crouched in their wake.

Impression Message

« You! Over there! » A dry rustling invades your mind, stealthily at first, until all at once it’s as though you’ve been cocooned within a swarm of thousands of flapping, squealing firelizards. Strangely enough, a sense of peace suffusses your being, seeming to radiate from the hulking bronze figure you can see at your feet. The bizarre sound slowly fades away, leaving only the peace of a moonlit night echoing in your head. « Ah, Darius. I’m so glad you came back to meet me. I’m Varugoth, and I think we have a lot of work to do together. »

Mindvoice Name and Description

Moonlit Shadows

To most, there is a feel of jubilation to Varugoth’s mind. It feels like a midnight party on the beach, underneath the full moons, with the roar of a bonfire and the background hum of happy revelers. It expresses itself in the excitement of a crackle of flame, in the warm contentment of a summer’s breeze, even in the intimate brush of silver moonlight. It is only to you, and to those whom he takes into his innermost confidences that the dark corners of his mind will be exposed: warm breezes turn cold, harsh, sinister shadows of shapes best left unexplored are thrown off by chilly moonbeams, even the sharp cut of broken glass underfoot. His mental voice is as rumblingly baritone as his physical one, though it’s incredibly expressive. Growls of anger, light joys of delight— the truth of all will always be known to you through the timbre of his mind.

Personality

Poor Varugoth. It’s not his fault he was born into a clutch consisting so heavily of the bane of his existence: strong-willed, morally ambiguous females. In his opinion, he should have been born into one of the earlier clutches, where he could reign as the supreme bronze, as the prince of the Weyr he was so meant to be. It’s in his nature to rule, to effortlessly help guide those less-fortunate than he on the path of life. He’ll still try his hardest to guide his siblings on the path of righteousness, but between Tzavayth and Ylvath, well. He’ll have his work cut out for him.

At his core, Varugoth truly is a noble soul. He wants so badly for everything to be right, and fair, and just, that seeing the sharper of his siblings take advantage of each other makes him ill. At first, you’ll find him jumping in without any subtlety: « Hey! Straketh! Quit trying to walk off with Seracenath’s red kitten blanket! » but as he matures, he will learn the value of charm to help soothe over burgeoning disputes: « Oh, Ylvath, here, let me get that for you instead— Rhieyeth looks too nice with that new oiling for her to be running around. » His desire for a lack of conflict will mould his public persona, turning him into the peacemaker, the happy fellow, the clown who distracts everyone from their disagreements. He will often jump right in with Seracenath, with whom he will find at the very least to be a superficial ally. Her easygoing, peacekeeping ways provide a fantastic template for the carefree, happy image he chooses to project in most situations.

But it /is/ just a persona: as he grows, his personality will grow more layered, more nuanced. It’s a subtle thing, at first: one day, you will find him sitting quietly, alone and deep in thought after derailing yet an argument between his sisters. Another, it will be an offhanded comment about the inherent injustice in allowing certain privileges to his golden sister that are denied to the greens. He might ask of you, after one of his brooding bouts, « Is not Seracenath just as valuable as Tzavayth? Why is one destined to rule, and the other not? » You’ll often find him asking you baffling questions, bringing up issues of morality or justice that you might otherwise never have considered: it might be time to brush up with the Harpers, if it’s been a while since your last review of the Charter.

Faranth protect if and when Varugoth learns about renegades, much less your involvement with them. His outrage that any might dare to disrupt his peace will only be matched by his desire to bring them to justice. Upon graduation, he will push heavily for you to join Flame wing even if you yourself might be more suited to life in Phantasm. At first, the renegades will make an easy target upon which to vent his frustrations with the world. And yet… Varugoth is a thinker. It won’t be long before he starts to question whether /all/ renegades are truly bad, or whether it is only their charismatic few that are to blame for the violence and bloodshed. It’s an issue that might not have as easy of an answer than one might believe, and one that will often keep him up nights — long after even you have gone to bed, occasionally.

But, back to the girls. Projecting an image of supreme confidence and easy-going nature is difficult to do when one has too many deep attachments to a female. Expect him to make an effort to chase as many females - both green and gold - as he can manage, but to win at a curiously infrequent rate. They intimidate him, those girls, and he’s often unsure just how far he wants to take the flirting game. That isn’t to say he won’t settle down: oh, no, should he find a female that he believes can keep up, who can put up just as much with his brooding ways as with his need to appear easy-going and harmless, he might very well end up infatuated. Too bad all that practice chatting up the girls from a distance won’t be any use at all in wooing his true love!

Growth

With his easy grace and exceptional conformation, Varugoth will find as an adult that most drills and exercises come naturally to him. What he /won’t/ enjoy, however, will be the terrible growth spurts he will be subjected to. They say you should evaluate a dragon’s conformation at two days old and at two years old, and to ignore everything else in between; this holds doubly-true for Varugoth. He’ll go through the worst possible puppy stages, wherein his paws will be too big for his legs, or his wings undersized in comparison to his great, bulky chest. Eventually it will all even out, but especially in the awkward time between three and ten months he will often be frustrated by the things his body just won’t quite cooperate on. Expect to offer him lots of reassurance and kind words, and to be ready to distract him from settling in for a good long brood about how unfair life is.

RP Tips

How will Varugoth mature? Will he end up a jaded loner, chasing down renegades in his spare time? Or will he instead learn to be truly at ease with his clutchmates, and join in the camaraderie of the pack? Will he learn to provide balance between his siblings, or will he throw his weight with one faction or the other? Varugoth is yours to take down any path you choose; what we have provided here is only a rough sketch, a template that you can use and abuse to your heart’s desire to achieve your character goals. Enjoy him!

Inspiration

The egg theme for this clutch was ‘trials and adversities’. In this case, your egg was based on the very scary place that is the dark alleyways and caves of Gotham City. The dragon theme for this clutch was ‘heroes great and small’. Your dragon is based loosely on none other than Batman himself: Bruce Wayne.
