Emerald in the Darkness Green Seracenath

Dragon Description

So dark, so very very dark, at first it’s hard to make out the color of this dragon; it could be midnight blue, it could be an ink-black brown. But when she moves, the darkness is betrayed and she shimmers and sheens with a brilliant green that highlights and outlines her every feature, glistening along her pronounced eye ridges, her gracefully swept head knobs, the gracile saw-tooth triangles of her neck and tail ridges, down to the tip of her sharply pointed tail. Graciously proportioned, she looks as if she will be neither too large nor too small, not too slender or too thick, dwelling in that beautiful, just right place that is the standard of perfection for any green dragon. And it is not just her proportions that are exquisite: she is as glossy as a Glasscrafter’s masterwork from head to toe, from nose to tail, and it is her elegantly proportioned wings, with their translucent sails, that really show off her exquisite emerald coloration to their finest: held up to the light they gleam like a deeply colored gemstone that has somehow trapped an eternal star within.

Egg Name and Description

Gale Force Winds Egg

A deep grey criss-crosses this egg’s surface, the color of the darkest storm clouds that swirl and twist. Darker shapes appear to be being blown about the surface as if battered by the punishing winds of this violent storm. There is a single bright point in the color of the egg: a silver circular point from which all of the storm’s power seems to radiate.

Hatching Message

Gale Force Winds Egg shatters into dozens of pieces all at once, revealing a small, dark figure on the even darker sands.

Hatchling Name and Description

Impression Message

« Oh, Mahlia! » Who’s that calling your name? The voice, high and fluttery with excitement, sounds as if it were coming from right over your shoulder… or perhaps it’s from somewhere closer? The scent of lavender and cinnamon waft pass you on a nonexistent breeze, baffling except, perhaps, for the bright blue-purple-red eyes that are looking so adoringly up at you. There’s a flickering light around her, uncertain and pale, against the backdrop of black sands. « I found you! I just knew you would wait for me. I’m your Seracenath, and I love you so very much! » The little green’s light seems to grow, strengthening into a powerful emerald beacon as she continues, bashfully, « Do you love me, too? Do you think we could find something to eat, together? I’m /so/ hungry! »

Mindvoice Name and Description

Steadfast Emerald Light

High and breathy, what Seracenath’s voice lacks for in power it more than makes up for in its sweet intonation. She’s got a natural soprano, pleasing to the mind’s ear (except when she gets excited, and forgets to modulate the volume of her squeals of joy). It’s often accompanied by shafts of green light, like sunlight filtering through the jungle’s canopy. A gentle breeze tends to waft by, bringing with it the scents of her emotions: apple blossoms when her mood is good, or lavender for affection, or even boiling numbweed when she’s feeling particularly frustrated. As her experience with the world grows, no doubt so will the cornucopia with which she expresses her feelings so aptly.

Personality

There is no sweeter, kinder, or gentler soul than your Seracenath; the Machiavellian scheming and jockeying for power that seems so prevalent in her siblings is totally lost upon her. For her, life is simple: peace, love, and a joy in growing things. That’s not to say there isn’t strength in her, for Seracenath possesses perhaps the most valuable sort of strength of all — the ability to meet cruelty and aggression head-on without ever compromising her sweet nature. She is fully confident, not only in herself and you, but in the inner goodness of all things: « If only you would stop fighting, Ylvath, I’m certain you and Tsavayth would see how wonderfully similar you both are! »

Given her natural peacemaker tendencies, Seracenath might find herself often wading in amongst her siblings — and even poking her nose in where it doesn’t strictly belong in order to satisfy her need to keep the peace. It is then, especially, when she experiences the inevitable rejection of those she so desperately wants to help, that she will turn to you for reassurance. Her natural confidence and inner serenity rely heavily upon your never-ending love and approval, which is something she will return to you in spades. « Oh, Mahlia. If only they could see how much better it would be if we all just treated each other kindly! »

Make no mistake, even when she is embroiled in the worst drama or the hottest arguments, she will never let her self-doubts show… nor will she try to choose sides, unless one side is clearly morally superior. There is spine to her, a will to follow through with her convictions, that she could do anything at all — only so long as you are there with her. In this, you might need to be the moderating voice, whispering to her that it’s okay to give up every now and then, and that when all is said and done everyone will be the better for having argued. You might even find that she grows to enjoy the attention she gets when she throws herself right into the middle of things, and that if you don’t watch out, the praise she earns for helping cool a hot situation might go straight to her head.

Given her love for all things alive and growing, it should be no surprise that she will turn her thwarted maternal instincts onto the helpless castaways that will never reject her love. Expect to find orphaned kittens curled up in your cot, or wild firelizard hatchlings with wounds that need bandaging, or even tunnelsnakes missing legs — her main concern is need, not cuteness. At least she’ll lose interest as they heal, or grow to maturity; there are too many needy things in the world for her to focus on those who she has already helped.

The one thing she will never tire of tending, though, are plants. Especially flowers. /Especially/ those bright, huge, but fragile tropical blossoms for which Eastern is so well-known. By the time you are moving into your own hut, expect her need to have a garden (which you will need to tend for her) to dictate its location. And, should she ever realize just how beneficial growing plants and herbs are to your healing studies, well. You can expect to always have her mentally listening over your shoulder and offering advice: « Don’t you think, for this fever, willowbark might work just as well on dragons as it does on humans? »

Maturity — and the accompanying mating flights — will be an interesting time for Seracenath. It won’t take long for her to figure out that chasing after a willing green is a great way for males to work out aggression. And her? She’s always willing. At least she doesn’t appear to suffer from proddiness: a little more social, perhaps, a little flirtier, but the core of her remains unchanged. And her flights, while not gentle per se, contain nothing of the violence or aggression of so many of her siblings. Rather, it’s about fun, and love, and making people happy… and she’ll do it as frequently as she thinks necessary.

Growth

As focused as she is on social matters, you can expect more than the usual share of dragonet clumsiness from her. It’s not that she’s naturally uncoordinated, it’s just that there are so much more important things to be focusing on than this week’s wing exercises, or watching to make sure that one isn’t always knocking over the meat bucket with her tail. It’ll require quite a lot of focus on your part to see that /she/ focuses on the things that might not be the most important from her point of view.

As much as she likes to give, you might also find — particularly when she is still small — that she needs to take from you as well. There is nothing sweeter to her than basking in your attention, whether it be luxuriating under a good oiling or eating choice cuts of meat straight from your hands. With her love of being pampered, and her sweet charm, you might find yourself with something of a spoiled brat on your hands if you don’t watch out.

RP Tips

We’ve provided you a rough sketch of Seracenath, but her true story lies with you, Mahlia. She is your dragon, and bonded to your character, and so it is up to you to determine how you would like her to grow! Will she blossom into a kind peacemaker? An outrageous flirt? A dramatic attention-seeker? Only you can decide her fate!

Inspiration

The egg theme for this clutch was ‘trials and adversities’. In this case, your adversity is nothing less trying than a hurricane. The dragon theme for this clutch was ‘heroes great and small’. Your dragon is inspired by the first female Green Lantern - Jennifer-Lynn Hayden. Beyond that, though, she embodies the very primal architype of the nuturer/healer/peacemaker. It’s a mainstay in all media, from Belle of Beauty and the Beast, Usagi Tsukino of Sailor Moon, Maria von Trappe from the Sound of Music, to our very own Brekke of Pern.
