Land Under Wave Blue Nyath

Dragon Description

The icy hues of a winter's sky form the base for this scrawny little dragon's colouring, but also provide the first part of his mystery. Is that the main colour or should that title be given to the whorls of navy that twist and dance over his form? This darker shade first appears as a spot on the tip of his pointed chin before sweeping up in ever more elaborate patternings that only grow in complexity as they kiss exaggerated eyeridges and sweep down his throat. Angular haunches and a tiny pot belly are not spared from this onslaught, the navy streaking here and there and eventually claiming dominance over tiny feet tipped with steel-blue talons. His wings are an oddity, the sails almost too large for his form, but here at least the colour is pure sky blue tipped only by the faintest hint of snowy white along the wingspars. His headknobs, however, are perhaps his more striking feature — large and oddly flattened they shade through purple, crowning his head with a cap that is almost red.

Egg Name and Description

Bovine Identification Egg
Bright primary colours and childish finger painting combine to bring life, and a rather confusing decoration, to this rather elongated shell. Splotches of colours mix haphazardly making it difficult to decide on any particular shape. There's one splotch that looks vaguely like a dragon, but then that would be expected. Another could be some sort of giant pig, or perhaps a rather deformed cow. One particular splotch could be a hand, possibly, another some sort of crustacean. All in all its possibly best to not stare at it too long. Or just make up your own decision of what the pictorial context should be.

Hatching Message

Bovine Identification Egg shudders, then jumps, then twists around in a circle. Each movement spilling sand from around the base before it topples, ever so slowly, over onto its side.

Bovine Identification Egg doesnt move this time, but a definite tap tap tapping comes from the direction of the egg as the dragon inside searches for a weak point. Eventually the egg gives a little hiccup in time with a loud TAP-CRACK.

Bovine Identification Egg is finally breached, talons bursting through the hand and shrimp on the shell and the shell simply crumbles under the assault from a dragon that immediately trumpets its squeaky, but heartfelt, annoyance at being so rudely constrained. This done it simply sits down, eyeing the world around it as it gets its bearings.

Hatchling Name and Description

This Promise of Bliss Hatchling
Little and scrawny this hatchling is perhaps not much to look at. Easy to overlook regardless of the fact that it seems to have creeped its way into one of the deepest shadows. Angular haunches strive to drive it forwards, while the apparent pot belly and the fact the wings drag on the sands could be as much down to the sandy additions and gloomy shadows as to the actual form beneath.

Impression Message

Thunder on your left. Lightning on your right. The world suddenly shudders around you as your vision slowly is swallowed by a blinding whiteness. But then it comes, bursting in, the scent of summer, the rustle of the trees, the smooth green of the hills, and a voice in your head. « Open your eyes. » Did you ever close them? Suddenly hes there before you, a tiny little blue hatchling « I have woken up and I am real. I know where I come from and I know where Im going. And I know you. » And just as easily you know him. Your Nyath.

Mindvoice Name and Description

Chalk and Steel
Nyath's mind is surprisingly clear, almost as if he has an innate understanding of the world and everything in it, yet with an eternally youthful tilt to it that keeps his touch light and gentle against the mind. He tends to pick his words carefully, perhaps simply from the fact he knows so many, but when risen to anger this is coupled with a sternness that the strictest of teachers would be proud of. Fear brings about a similar response, though accompanied by a stiffening of resolve to not let the fear win. Through both anger and fear his mind soars with the colours of fire, but it's towards chalky whites and lush grassy greens that his mind is most likely to turn accompanied by the gentlest of rustlings like leaves in a breeze, other colours generally only making an appearance at times of high emotion, and the drabbest of greys reserved only for times of great sadness.

The theme for this clutch was Bedtime Stories, and your Nyath's egg was based on 'Where's My Cow' by the wonderful, and much missed, Terry Pratchett. The personality of the egg was a mix of Sam Vimes and Tiffany Aching, but in your questionnaire you asked for 'quirky, analytical, just a little bit strange.' and despite the incongruity of making a male dragon based on a female character he became all Tiffany, with a good dose of Nac Mac Feegle when it comes to his desc.

As always this inspiration is merely a guide - squish it, mould it, and make it your own.

Personality (RP Tips)

"At such times the universe gets a little closer to us. They are strange times, times of beginnings and endings. Dangerous and powerful. And we feel it even if we don't know what it is. These times are not necessarily good, and not necessarily bad. In fact, what they are depends on what *we* are." — Terry Pratchett, I Shall Wear Midnight

Why? But why? Why were you landed with such a lifemate as Nyath. And more importantly will it ever be possible to stop him from asking « Why? » about every little thing in life.

He isn't one to be satisfied with the simple answers - if he eats a fish he wants to know what kind it is and where it was caught. A bovine he doesn't kill himself, well was it male or female? How large? Where from? If you ever dare to say something was as big as your head you'd better be prepared to tell him exactly what size that is because there's nothing wrong with being precise about these things.

"That's Third Thoughts for you. When a huge rock is going to land on your head, they're the thoughts that think: Is that an igneous rock, such as granite, or is it sandstone?" — Terry Pratchett, Wintersmith

Luckily this inquisitiveness extends to everything and it won't be unheard of for him to seek out other dragons so that he can learn more about the world in general. Each little detail, each nugget of knowledge, is squirreled away in a mind that had a far greater capacity for memory than many of his kind. You may well find yourself seeking out dictionaries and encyclopaedias so that you can read them to him - something he will love for the bonding experience just as much as the knowledge within.

Strangely for a dragon he will be slow to fly, the last of his class most likely, for one very simple reason - he doesn't like it. It's rather hard to get a dragon to fly while they have their eyes closed and, especially at first, it does rather make him feel sick. Eventually he will get to grips with it, hell even become quite accomplished at it, but he'll never be entirely at ease in the air and will tend to fly much lower than most oftentimes skimming the tops of trees just to be that little bit closer to the ground. As a result flights and romance will never be first on his list of favourite things - that's not to say he won't take part with enthusiasm when the hormones surge, but afterwards he may end up feeling rather queasy which is a bit insulting to any female he might catch.

Whether it's skill or just an annoying snooping technique he has a habit of making people forget he's there. He doesn't actually do anything, but after a time he just sort of fades into the background thanks to a combination of not moving too much or making any noise. Hes always still there, always aware, but people seem to just skim past him. Unfortunately while the skill is a good one to have, coupling it with the impulsiveness of youth does rather mean that until he grows out of doing things things just because they seem like a good idea he may well end up scaring a few people along the way.

"Them as can do, has to do for them as can't. And someone has to speak up for them as has no voices." — Terry Pratchett, The Wee Free Men

From an early age it is clear that he is fiercely loyal to those that are 'his'. Obviously you are first on that list, but it also extends to his clutchmates and, as he ages, the entire weyr and any candidates that he personally Searches. Nothing is allowed to happen to them because they are his, and if he has to go rescue them himself then he'll do just that and you can bet that « There will be a reckoning. » Likewise if any of his clutchmates are falling behind in weyrling training he'll do his best to help them out, regardless of how he might feel about them otherwise, because if they fail then everyone does. Such endeavours cannot always be accomplished alone and he'll happily recruit others to his cause. Luckily he can be quite persuasive when he puts his mind to it.

Loyal and loving, intelligent and just a little bit odd, your Nyath is destined for great things. It's up to you both to figure out which great things are important, and which you might just let pass by.

"If you trust in yourself… and believe in your dreams… and follow your star… you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy." — Terry Pratchett, The Wee Free Men
