At War With Herself Green Kioyeth

Dragon Description

Shadows dance across the hide of this dragon, creating dozens of thick strokes that wrap her frame from tail to toe. The pine-dark hues dance and meld together to form patterns that appear to shift with even the slightest movement, concealing all but hints of moss and juniper which peek out from behind. Twining across great paws, vines of forest green crawl upwards before finally disappearing into the mural of her hide. At first glance it is difficult to account for how much muscle this dragon has underneath that ever-shifting surface, but upon closer inspection it becomes clear that this creature was built to be an apex predator. While here lean muscles may lack in force, each well-defined limb and streamlined feature speaks of speed and agility. While her coloring may camouflage her athletic ability, one look in this dragon’s narrow set eyes make it evident that she is a keen hunter. The large orbs are darker than those of most dragons, and even when they spark with color the swirls seem almost ominous. Shrouded and shaded, only a hint of brightness mars her perfect camouflage; her headknobs. - olive draped and pointed, they are wider than most and look almost akin to canine-ears.

Egg Name and Description

Life’s Many Colors Egg
Ragged and jagged and a little off-kilter, this mid-sized egg resembles nothing more than a hunk of raw near-colorless crystal sitting amidst the dark sands. There is nothing particularly compelling about it - until the light strikes just right. Then, beneath the glossy surface, a faint hint of prismatic hue arises, sparking color against the otherwise uniform silvery-white surface. Perhaps it shines sapphire, bright and bold{;} or glows healer's green to ease and soothe. A sinister splash of scarlet shimmers at times, angry and brooding, while at others, vibrant violet spills a defensive cloak across the shell. In the evening, orange highlights slyly bring a false golden glow, while dawn might evoke an amber flare, mirroring the rising sun, evocative of glory to come. No matter what color throbs within the heart of this egg, however, there remains the steady, silent pulse of silvery life, waiting to unfold.

Hatching Message

Life’s Many Colors Egg gives one last tortured shriek - a thousand voices crying out in chorus, rock grinding on rock or the first-born cry of its occupant, then splinters into shards, many colors sparking briefly in a flash of lightning before all hues fade to nothing, leaving behind nothing so much as a wisp of colorless mist soon hidden in the storm.

Hatchling Name and Description

Hidden in the Mists Hatchling
In the flickering light it is difficult to make out the color of this hatchling. The moment it pops out of its shell the creature stands on lanky limbs. It crouches low to the ground and its eyes swirl red as it takes in the group of candidates before it. Ungainly wings seem almost too large for this dragonet’s form, and the sharp cut of wingspars is almost eerie. Sand falls slowly off dangerously sharp claws and the remnants of shell dripping off of the dragonet seem almost akin to blood. But surely that isn’t it? Surely the dark liquid smeared across its mouth and painted on each claw is something benign….right?

Impression Message

Public:
Hidden in the Mists Hatchling is growing more and more irritated by the moment, as evinced by the constant, low-grade yipping that seems to be their way of letting everyone around them know just how unhappy they are with this blasted storm. As they trot by another group of Candidates, they abruptly whirl about and leap at one, teeth snapping inches from his startled face. As he lets out a scream and scrambles back, the hatchling lands nimbly on all four feet, fluttering wings at the group before trotting off again, head and tail held high with sudden pleasure. In passing yet another Candidate, it pauses as if to repeat the trick - then stops, tail flagging up, wings cupping the air. Abruptly, it whirls and dashes, voice rising in a delighted howl as it leaps upon a blond-haired, green-eyed young man, slamming head-first into his chest.

Private:
Heat is replaced by heat, the sere, choking dry of the desert. Around you, sagebrush sprouts, surrounded by succulents stretching upwards a sun-bright sky. « Ugh! This rain! Do you have any idea how hard it is to walk on wet sand? » The richly feminine voice echoes through your mind, sharp and irritated. « You better be worth it, La'on, because I am absolutely not doing this again. » Vaguely, you're aware of a narrow muzzle pressing into your chest, nudging you inexorably in the direction of where a Weyrlingmaster - and your new life - awaits. « Come on, boy, let's go eat something. And stop gaping, you look ridiculous. » Abruptly, heat becomes cool, sere becomes damp, and succulents and sagebrush are replaced by towering pines. What was once irritation sloughs away to affection, and laughter sounds, rich and teasing. « C'mon, La'on, I'm Kioyeth, and we're pack. Forever. » And she gives voice to a laughing howl as she bounds off, expecting you to follow.

Mindvoice Name and Description

Dueling Dualities
You liked this egg for its split personality; and a split personality it has. The original mind was based off of the three flavors of Force user found in the Star Wars universe: Jedi, Sith, and neutral. Constantly at war with each other, these acolytes of an ancient religion vie to bring order or chaos to a galaxy far, far away. Although you chose to step away from the Star Wars inspiration of the egg, your dragon remains at war - only rather than without, within.

Kioyeth is a bundle of contradictions, mostly centered around her rather volatile emotions. Her mindscape changes based on what she is feeling, and the differences can be rather extreme. For instance, when she’s happy or content, you might find yourself walking through a misty, nighttime forest, great pine trees spearing up towards a darkened sky, patches of moonlight filtering down from the two full moons up above. The sounds and song of night in Bitra echo in gentle chorus, soothing and peaceful. Mirth or amusement might be echoed in the playful rush of the breeze, the rustle of needles raining down upon you. Her happy mind is a happy place, filled with aspects of the world that you mutually love.

However, no one is ever always happy - especially your volatile Kioyeth. At times of anger or sadness or even fear, the landscape dries up, the trees shriveling and withering until they’re nothing more than sagebrush and succulents amidst a sere, sun-dried savannah. The wind will howl, the dust will choke, and there will never be any doubt in anyone’s mind at the ferocity of her emotions.

Inspiration

Egg Inspiration - Based on the Kyber crystal of Star Wars lore (the EU version, not the far more simplified Canon version), this egg is all colors and none, just like the crystal that gives final form to a Force User’s lightsaber. The physical embodiment of the Living Force, kyber crystals are hand-harvested by a Jedi or stolen by a Sith prior to being placed inside the casing of a lightsaber. When used, the kyber crystal will take on characteristics based on the user’s personality and morality: for instance, a Light-side Force User who focuses on healing others will have a green lightsaber blade, while a Dark-side Force User who specializes in stealthy assassination would have an orange lightsaber blade. Like the Kyber crystal, Life’s Many Colors Egg encapsulates far more than a simple crystal matrix; within this shell lives the embodiment of the Force in the form of your lifemate, Kioyeth.

Mind Inspiration (Original): Dueling Dualities -The original mind was based off of the two main flavors of Force user found in the Star Wars universe: Jedi and Sith. Constantly at war with each other, these acolytes of an ancient religion vie to bring order or chaos to a galaxy far, far away. On one side, you have the Order-bound acolytes of Light, the Jedi, an ancient order founded to preserve the galaxy and protect its people, driven by the will of the Force. On the other, you have the Chaos-driven acolytes of Dark, the Sith, who strive to subjugate and control all around them, bending and warping the Force to serve their will. Together, they will never find peace, for it is but a lie, and will always be at war for ultimate control of the Force and the galaxy.

Mind Inspiration (Official): Dueling Dualities - While the name still works, the basis for inspiration does not, as your Kioyeth has no basis in Star Wars. She does retain, however, the dual nature of her original inspiration - this time in mindscape. Her mind is based off of two of the more common habitats for coyotes in North America: the great pine forests of the East/Southeast, and the sere deserts of the Southwest. At her most neutral, she may also show echoes of the rolling grasslands that usually serve to join these two extremes. Kioyeth is always at war with herself - she, like all dragons, is a thinking, sentient creature capable of original thought and great compassion. However, there is a feral, animalistic side of her over which she does not have complete control, which may emerge at the slightest provocation. Her two natures will always be at war with each other for control; it is up to you, La'on, to help her find that balance between her dueling natures.

Name Insipration: Kioyeth doesn’t have some mystical meaning - at least, not that I’m aware of. Malia Tate is a werecoyote. You wanted something that is easy to pronounce OOCly. Coyote is already a pretty word (but obvious word is obvious), so I simply played with the letters while roughly preserving the pronunciation. Kioyeth is pronounced, by this player, as Kee-oh-yeth, and she’ll accept you shortening it to Kio (Kee-oh) or Kiy (Kee). Bonus: Kio/Kyo/Kiy are common phonetic spellings of the coyote’s distinctive yipping.

Personality (RP Tips)

Personality:

conflicted
/kənˈfliktid/
adjective
having or showing confused and mutually inconsistent feelings.

If there is one word in this world to describe your Kioyeth, La'on, it’s ‘conflicted’. She is a bundle of contradictions, emotionally, mentally, and physically. In fact, it’s safe to say that the only thing she’s never going to second-guess herself about is you. If there’s anything in her life that she knows 100% that she got absolutely right, it was choosing you on the Sands.

But although Kioyeth is never quite certain - other than choosing you - that the choices she makes are the right ones, she’s still going to make them. Headstrong and determined, she’ll bull ahead and damn the consequences - and take you right along for the ride. If you’re not careful, you’ll find yourself in trouble every time you turn around… unless you step in to lead your little pack of two.

« I don’t think A’she was very nice when he told us we couldn’t hunt yet. We’re going to go and hunt anyway. »
“Kiy, you’re barely big enough to look a chicken in the eye.”
« That’s an exaggeration! »
“Not much of one. Now eat these meat scraps.”

Not that Kioyeth doesn’t occasionally have excellent ideas. She’s not necessarily trouble looking for a place to happen - it just happens that trouble often finds her whether she wants it to or not. Sometimes, though, she can be absolutely brilliant, and it’s those flashes of inspiration you’ll want to cultivate and encourage, while subtly discouraging her from following her more chaotic impulses.

If you're curious, here's an example.

In addition to being impulsive, Kioyeth is incredibly honest. Incredibly blunt. In fact, she doesn’t really understand the concept of tact. Or boundaries. Or softening the blow. She’s the kind of dragon that what you see is what you get, in all her madcap glory. Neither you nor anyone else will ever have to worry that anything Kioyeth says is anything less that what she means - but you might find yourself dealing with the fallout from her less than diplomatic ways.

Her pragmatism is beautifully animalistic, all the way down to that lack of tact. Why pull punches? Why hedge the truth? Say what you mean or don't say it. She won't accept half-measures, either; a half-truth is as bad as a non-truth in her book and she'll fight against any efforts to mask or obscure it. Like a canine with a bone, she will strip the meat from your words and lay the facts bare.

And she'll be proud of it.

The hunter in her won't let anything go, either. Not prey - unless it's truly a lost cause - and not knowledge. If she senses fear or hesitation, she will leap on you - or anyone else - to strip it away and get to the real core of the matter. Tenacious to a fault, once she has her paws - or claws - or teeth on something, she’ll worry it until it’s dead and rested… and then return for more. Beware her grudges, they are awesome, fearsome things, spanning far beyond a dragon’s normal short memory unto turns past. If anything, she’ll forget any revenge she’s enacted and feel compelled to get her own… again, and again, and again.

“Kiy, what did you do to Szetamirath’s clearing? Jazhira is complaining about the smell of dead fish.”
« I buried fish under her flowers. »
“But, why?”
« Because she pointed me out! I almost had Qhatiratrixth’s tail and she told him I was there! »
“Kiy, that was five turns ago!”
« And I still haven’t paid her back! »

On the upside, she's not much of a schemer, your Kioyeth. But, she is prone to planning when planning is necessary. Don't expect anything convoluted or crazy, though.

« I have a plan. I don't know if it's devious. »

(spoilers: it will never be devious)

She’s not subtle, your lady. Nor is she particularly feminine or dainty. Don’t expect to find Kioyeth cuddling with her latest beau or looking to bring home flowers to decorate your cottage. You’re more likely to find her stalking her siblings across the room, dragging home dead carcasses to nibble on later, or digging dens in the gardens to hide in. When caught out, she won’t deny when she’s done something wrong - but she will defend herself, and her logic often leaves a bit to be desired. What she lacks in tact she makes up for in honesty - she’ll never lie, not to you, not to anyone - if someone seeks an honest opinion, Kioyeth is the first and last place they need to look.

She may be rough, she may be abrasive - but she is absolutely in love with you. You never have to fear with her at your side - you will always have a defender, a confidant, a pack-mate, and a friend. You are her Alpha; she is your pack. Together, you will hunt whatever your heart desires, and with her at your side, you never need fear - you will always catch your prey.

Flights:

Flights will be short, sweet, and to the point, just like your Kioyeth. Most female dragons change when they go into heat, their personalities altering, sometimes drastically.

Not Kioyeth.

Her personality is already mutable, changing on a whim, and her proddy cycle won’t change that in the least. The only hint you might have that she’s getting ready to rise will be an increase in interest from the males around her - and an increase in her irritation with their flirting and courting.

She probably won’t stay in heat for more than a day or two before she finally rises, and her flights will be swift and chaotic and perhaps just a bit bloody. She won’t submit to the winner without a tussle, and it won’t be unusual for both she and her mate to be sporting a few slices and bites at the end of things. And it’s rarely the biggest or strongest of the chasers who will catch her fancy; her flight winners will be the swift, the sly, the sneaky - the blues and browns (and occasional bronze) who have traded bulk for brains and stamina for speed and stealth.

Once the deed’s done, she’s not likely to cuddle; she’s all for a wham, bam, thank you sir, and she’s off again to hunt down her next misadventure. Sex is all fine and good, but what truly stirs her heart to passion is the thrill of being the hunter - not the hunted. The ignominy of being chased and caught like her own prey won’t last for more than a day or two, but during that brief time after her flights, expect her to be even more grumpy than usual.

Logain, La’on, welcome to Monaco Bay Weyr! We caught you, and we’re never letting you go! You and your Kioyeth are a fine addition to our quirky cast, and we’re ecstatic to have you both here!
