Description

This young man, appearing to be in his late teens, can be described as quirky; left awkward even after the stages of puberty have faded. Height wise, with his lanky flat-abs skinny frame, he happens to be the definition of reedy. Reality has it, that he's below average in height, around that of the average woman. His pale skin-tone adds to the interesting affair that is Tadarius; pale enough that some would be shocked to see him in a tropical setting. It's the type of skin that turns red before it turns brown from the sun, freckled numerously all over. A blockish face with a square jaw and freckle splotched mid-rise cheekbones does, in the overall picture, suite him. Ginger hair roosts on his head, short but not buzzed, and clearly mussed as if he doesn't do a thing with it. Below are rusty brows and hazel eyes, set wide in his face with a straight bridged nose parting them. Shallow red lips are often surrounded by wiry copper whiskers, which track a path up toward his ear tips.
The man is clad in traveler's garb; he wears simple black trousers and a forest green pullover that laces in the front from midchest to the neck. A worn leather jacket hangs loosely from his shoulders, stopping about mid-thigh, and a leather rucksack can usually be seen slung over one shoulder. The man's feet are clad in mid-ankle hiking boots, they are leather and appear as worn as the jacket.

History

Tadarius had a start in Cove Hold, where life was all about relaxation and rest - at least if you were retired and old. Still, local and usually old Harpers would see to the education of the children who were there. The more quick witted children were advised to foster out to busier centers and pick a craft early in age. Tadarius was not amongst those who were to be shipped to places like Landing, but he did have his mind set on a craft, since following a parents footsteps is the easiest decision and most loyal one in which a child could make when young.

The lad had been seen throughout his younger Turns, clinging to his mother's skirts as she would wander to and from work, the child plodding along with her to oversee the business in the workshop. It came to a point that she had to start bringing her work home, as the older he would get the more of a distraction he became to her fellow craftsmen. Not to say there wouldnt be days they'd ask for him to stop by.

Overtime as he developed better motor skills and attention to detail, the lad was allowed more advanced tools and materials to use as he took interest in what his mom created, restored, or studied. With a knack for tinkering, the boy was a natural genius when it came to gadgets and gizmos - at least compared to the rest of the kids his age. A journeyman allowed him to officially start with the craft as soon as he hit twelve - but everyone knew he started sooner than that.

As it was, the curriculum was tough, so he had a grueling start in the apprenticeship program, since it was likely some of the hardest work hes ever had to do in his life! Nevertheless, he forged on, finding a particular interest in cameras. The fondness for them came during a project to restore a piece of technology. There were numerous items set about for them to pick from and Tadarius went straight for the camera.

That day forward, he decided to stick with it, since it was easy enough and it was something many other techies stayed away from. As he aged, it became clear he wasn't as brainy in the craft as most people initially believed, retaining average grades throughout his courses and evaluations.

During that time as an apprentice, he became the unhappy target of other boys around his age, from fellow apprentices to those in other crafts, to the simple ones with no ambition laid out for them yet. It was easy to understand why. He was a momma's boy, a geeky guy with no social skills who talked of spaceships instead of girls, who was pasty white, skinny, weak and freckled, topped with a mop of shocking red hair that didn't lend to his awkwardly short reediness. He was ripe for the torture of his peers.

Many Hold folks believed it was natural for boys to rough house, but the truth was that Tadarius was bullied, constantly and without reason other than he was weaker and different. In his mind, it was easier run to his mum's skirts rather than fight back. Of course there were times he couldn't run and he would suffer the fate most victims of bullying do - wedgies, dunking, pranks, kicks, name calling and taunts… They picked on him harder for not fighting back, some could say it was the soft tenderness of a boy being rasied only by a woman which lead to that fate.

Tadarius was still in his teens when his journeyman provided the ceremony for him to walk the tables - even if there were no literal tables to walk - as if the promotion a rushed decision. There are those who say his mother paid for it, to get him out of Cove Hold and away from those who decidedly bullied him, rather than it being truly earned by his skills alone. He -was- skilled, though no more or less than his anyone else at his level, except in one area - cameras. No one could touch him when it came to cameras and this was the documented reason for his advancement.

Tadarius received his first assignment in matter of days from his promotion and it was to the large flourishing center of Eastern Weyr.

He arrived a sheltered nervous lad of just eighteen, who had never been beyond the walls of Cove Hold. He came by wagon, so the dragons were a sight to behold. There were retired dragonriding pairs at Cove Hold, but none so agile as these. His interest in them was short lived, as he kept to himself and to the Weyr's workshop most of the time, trying to avoid Fiona's ire and getting wrangled for something not in his work description.

He didn't make friends all that quickly and often made a fool of himself when he did try to join into conversations with people he didn't know. He came off brash and unkind when he took the chance. Othertimes, folks had been uninterested in his stand-offish behavior. Despite this, he did manage to take interest in a girl named Mahlia. As irony, or luck, would have it, even if she had a boyfriend at the time, she was the first to notice his disapperance shortly after the excitement of the Weyr's latest clutch on the sands started…
