Lonriya

Lonriya impressed the golden daughter of Miyareith and remained at Eastern until after her first clutch. Then a trade was organized between Eastern and Igen, resulting in the young junior being sent to the desert weyr. There Lonriya and gold Isisth thrived, and before long ended up as the senior gold pair at Igen. She was the Weyrwoman of Igen for twenty turns before Sianne's gold Sakrienth rose in a leadership flight.

Description

Creamy of skin, slightly toasted by desert sun and weather, a smattering of freckles sprinkle across her cheeks and the bridge of her nose; dappling droplets of darker mahogany visible against the faint golden tan of her skin. While she's not remarkable enough to be considered dazzlingly beautiful, this woman is still comely enough to be attractive should members of the opposite sex be so drawn to her physcial type. With soft curves in the right places — most notably along breast and hip since her passage into motherhood, perhaps the best word that might describe this woman would be petite, for a short compact torso and slim legs lend credulance to her slight, willowy build. Her facial features too appear delicate and fine-boned; the heart-shaped structure of her face softened by high cheekbones and finely arched eyebrows soften the wide sweep of her forehead, set above a pair of deep-set emerald-green eyes. A petite, well-proportioned nose rests high above her somewhat-full lips, drawing attention away from the stubborn set of her chin, perhaps the only harsh angle about her for the rest are softened by gentle curves. Loni's chestnut-brown hair is pulled back into a casual ponytail, tied with a simple twist of black wherhide. It falls past her shoulders, occasionally swishing over her shoulder every now and then, with each turn of her head. No longer adolescent and yet not past her prime, the best guess of her age might be in her mid-twenties.

History

Born in at a minor Hold a few runner's-ride from Nabol to two loving parents, Lonriya (pronounced Lon-REE-ya), the third offspring and only daughter, was joined some two turns or so later by her third brother, Zerikyn. Her mother, Risyta, was the Assistant Headwoman for the Hold and her father, Marlon, was a local Trader; comfortably capable of providing for his family, and thus Lonriya was the beneficiary of a happy childhood, did all her lessons, though she seemed to excel more in those things that needed to be learnt by reading. She was a scholarly child and while her parents never sent her off to Landing University, they encouraged her dreams. In the later half of her fifteenth Turn, it was her aunt, a cook at High Reaches Weyr, who suggested the girl might like to come for a visit and stay with her a while.

And so Lonriya came to High Reaches Weyr. She settled down, to learn from Khitaja, her cook-aunt, and only managed to burn the stew. It was deemed that the girl was so engrossed in her reading (and even daydreaming, though it remains to be seen exactly what she was dreaming about) that she had let the stew burn (which in itself was quite a feat) So, she would be given easier tasks.

She even made some new friends, and talked long and often with Nita, green Flairth's rider and the Assistant Weyrlingmaster. She learned how to oil a firelizard, and even scritched Flairth's eyeridges for her one day. All in all, Lonriya was a content young lady, and Nita suggested she ought to help Junior Weyrwoman Telira with the archives since she liked to read so much.

Well, those suggestions would have to be put on hold, for as Lonriya's luck would have it, she was Searched. It all started innocently enough. She was just enjoying a nice chat in the northern Bowl of the Weyr with Weyrwoman Kayla and Bronzerider H'son, talking about the snow that was starting to fall as winter set in. Then Weyrleader M'kael and his Ferth joined them, for a break off the sands, for it had been bronze Ferth who sired the clutch of Junior Queen Lilith. Ferth started throwing snow, Lonriya threw snow back to defend herself and was promptly snagged by the bronze's tail to keep her in place while he threw even more snow at her. Too bad it missed and hit M'kael and Kayla instead. Somehow after that, M'kael told Lonriya that the only way she'd get Ferth to let her go was to do one simple thing for him. And that was to agree to Stand as a Candidate. So Lonriya accepted…. it was the only way to get a dragon to let go of her leg.

She hadn't been a Candidate for very long when she met some of the other girls who had also been Searched; Brell and Naiya. And had a lovely talk with them, and Carow, a Weyr resident. Cadidate chores were hard at times, but still the Candidates found the time to go iceskating or to indulge in snowfights. Lonriya had another talk with Carow and Kilari, a visitor from Island River Hold. And as the sevendays passed, Lonriya found herself looking forward to the Hatching, and perhaps… Impression.

But it was not to be, left on the Sands, she watched her friend, Ralia walk off with brown Riokith and become R'lia, Brell Impress brown Kierath and become his B'ella, Dayla, who she'd hardly, met Impress Selerath, and Jyrisea Impress the young queen, Baelynth. With a glimmer of disappointment, 'Riya returned to the resident dorms.

Lonriya's cot in the resident dorms hadn't been occupied for long when Tylynn and blue Yyrith of Xanadu Weyr arrived. Slurping at the girl, the Xanaduian blue claimed her for Genevraith and Branth's clutch at Xanadu Weyr. Acceptance was quickly given, and Lonriya found herself whisked off to the Southern Continent for some honest to goodness sunshine. Even if she missed the snow. Settling in well, Lonriya made acquaintances among the other Candidates.

But disappointment was soon to follow. All it took was a slip going up the staors to the main caverns, and Lonriya found herself with a broken ankle. Candidacy was prematurely cut short and because she couldn't be taken between (or stand on the Xanadu sands) was sent home to High Reaches Weyr, via a sailing vessel.

Once reuinted with her friends and family (and her beloved snow-filled Bowl) Lonriya was given a task by Nita; one that could easily accomodate her injury proved to be rewarding indeed. Tending to the little pot of sands, in which rested the single firelizard egg, was easy, and soon she was the recipiant of a wonderful Placid Morning Blue Hatchling, whom she called Rache. And so, the fosterling at the frosty Weyr settled back down as a resident; occasionally helping out in the stables, tending to her new runner, a chestnut gelding named Legacy.

Change arrived once more in the form of dragons. While Lonriya knew there were eggs on the sands at Eastern Weyr; indeed, she'd even been down there on an errand for her cook-aunt when both the senior queen, Arolaeth and her daughter, Miyareith, were clutching, and even got to see the eggs, it never occured to her that the Searchriders would venture as far north as the 'Reaches. But venture they did, and bronzerider D'ce and greenrider N'andi asked Lonriya to show them the living caverns, where they might get a glass of wine. In due time, Lonriya's presence was demanded out in the Bowl by the dragons, and they made short work of Searching her.

Although M'kael, the Weyrleader of High Reaches, and Ferth did protest some, the final choice was Lonriya's, and she chose to venture once more to the Southern Continent. Thankfully, the weather at Eastern wasn't always the most wonderful, and it was sometimes cold enough to remind the newly-Searched girl of the bitter-cold winter night's back home. She made friends once more-seeing new faces—and old faces in the forms of Naiya and Saisha, both of whom she had stood with before. The sands were visited, egg-touchings held, and it soon became apparent to Lonriya that the Perfectly Powdered Marshmellow Egg was her favorite. While the other Candidates complained of the rather harsh nature the mind of the being within the egg's confines, Lonriya quickly developed an undestanding with the egg and spent most of her time fawning over it.

Pranks were made by the other Candidates, and when they all were threatened with extra chores if one more prank was played, Lonriya argued fervently for being a good biddable Candidate. And so she was, though she wasn't always the best of Candidates to be around at times. A trip northand a visit home with Naiya, Radmir, J'em and Koribrought Lonriya to High Reaches Weyr just as Kayla's gold firelizard, Speck's, clutch Hatched. Lighting Flash Gold Freya was soon entranced by Lonriya wiggling her meat along with the rest. Which meant she now had two firelizards—and once more awaited the day, or night, when the double clutch on Eastern's sands would Hatch, and she would know if she was meant to find her lifemate this time. Or not. But only Faranth alone knew.

It was dark on those Eastern sands. Oh so very dark. Somhow the power had been cut, and there was only enough light on the sands for the Candidates to huddle together under a spotlight and await the hatching eggs. One by one, dragonets Hatched in the gloomy darkness and stepped forth from the shadows into the spotlight, thus revealing their true colors. Standing with the others, Lonriya watched as gold Kazarenth chose Espera, bronze Angelesth chose Ryu who then became Yu'i, bronze Concolth chose Taylar to become his T'lar, green Amaitakawarai who found her lifemate in Koshini and green Tezzath who chose Xeamon who was now Xe'n. Other eggs Hatched that day, but not Miyareith's clutch—and the Perfectly Powdered Marshmellow Egg was still whole. Lonriya had not yet been left standing… and still she shoped.

The younger gold's clutch Hatched the next day, and once more, Lonriya found herself on the sands—once more waiting in the spotlight for the hatchlings to emerge from the gloom. There, brown Grummith found his Naiya, blue Quinzelth his Danae, and Tavor was chosen by blue Rasiloth to become T'vor and Nelali was found by her green Teerith. And then at last, as the last hatchling moved towards the light, Lonriya felt it.

The sudden entry into your mind leaves no room for personal space or privacy. Indeed when this presence takes over with all the imposing nature of a goddess. And with her comes a name… so simple, and yet so complex…. « Isisth »

At last, Lonriya had found her dragon in the Winged Goddes Gold Isisth.

Weyrlinghood came and went. Isisth grew and learned to fly. The pair learned to go *between* and they passed their final test with flying colors. Tapped into Libra Wing under the guidance of Wingleader Sh'ai and her blue, the gold pair quickly grew to love slapping judgements on the renegade-types that Firestorm Wing brought in. A few more months would pass, and surprisingly, Isisth began to glow a lovely golden color. When she rose, she was chased by bronzes and browns, but it was bronze Kalerriarth of Igen who caught her. Isisth grew round and fat with pregnancy and thus after three months, she clutched her first offspring upon the Igen sands. In due time, they Hatched, giving to Eastern a clutch of much needed browns, along with some blues and greens—and a bronze or two. Over the course of the coming Turns, Lonriya was promoted to Libra Wingleader and led her wing well.

With Isisth's second rising, she was caught by brown Kelvrenth of Fort, and once more took to the sands to lay a good-sized clutch. When the eggs Hatched, and as the remaining shards were being cleared from the sands, the gold proudly told her rider. « Now I have clutched and my young have Hatched. Soon it will be your time, for your hatchling. »

Startled by her dragon's words, Lonriya went to the Healers, and found that she was indeed pregnant as a result of the mating flight. Little over 5 months later, Lonriya gave birth to a son, who's father was J'salt, rider of brown Kelvrenth and WeyrSecond of Fort Weyr. She named the boy Riyanalt and fostered him with the support staff of Eastern Weyr.

Not long after, a request came from Igen Weyr. A goldrider was needed from the more gold-heavy Weyr of Eastern to come assist at the gold-light Igen. And so, it was Lonriya who was chosen—and no sooner had she gotten there, but Blythe stepped down as Senior, naming Loni to take her place.

So, in one swell foop, Lon found herself as the Senior Weyrwoman of Igen Weyr.

Settling into life at the desert Weyr was not all that bad, although she was used to streamy jungle warmth rather than the dry desert air, Lonriya adapated well. She made sure she drank plenty of water, and started to get a really nice tan. She mediated between Wingleaders, handled paperwork and generally was busy enough that she didn't notice Isisth starting to glow.

And glow the queen did, flinging her rider into full-fledged flirting with a number of bronzeriders in the living caverns one day. Glowing golden in the sun, Isisth took it upon herself to rise pursued by bronzes Kalerriarth and Vorshnath of Igen Weyr as well as bronze Caith of Xanadu Weyr (and a very bold and brash Axis the bronze firelizard that looks to WeyrHealer Faizah of Igen ) Leading her suitors over the desert sand of Igen in her first flight since arriving at the desert Weyr to assume the seniorship. The former Eastern junior led her suitors on a merry chase, and slowly she tired. Let it not be said that she ever still favored Kalerriarth who had caught her in her maiden flight at Eastern, but when when all was said and done, it was the violet-bronze who had caught her. And as she was Senior, and Kalerriarth her new (or perhaps old?) mate, that made his rider, E'in the new Weyrleader of Igen Weyr.

What lies ahead for Igen now?
