Aliona

Description

Aliona is a young woman of average height, with a slender build and tan skin. Her straight black hair reaches just past jaw length, shorter lengths framing an oval-shaped face. Set on either side of a small nose, her dark blue eyes partially hide under long lashes and curved brows the same colour as her hair. Aliona appears to be in her early-40s.

A loosefitting dress of graduated green-blue graces Aliona's frame, the extra material skimming over what is no longer a secret - a pregnancy bump. The dress itself is fairly low cut, cinched in just under her bust to allow for extra room, and falls to just below her knees. Her arms are bare, what little sleeves there are ending just below her shoulders, with the exception of a woven bracelet around her left wrist. On her feet are a pair of sensible green-blue pumps to match the dress colour.

She wears the knot of an Eastern junior weyrwoman, but still proudly displays the badge of one of the travelling families on a thin leather band around her neck.

Home

Outside
Snuggled up to the beach stands this little cottage, perfectly placed to make the most of the view. Wildflowers are scattered randomly across the land, the only real planning apparently having gone into the row of small shrubs that act as the boundary line, and to the side of the cottage a very basic roofed structure provides shelter from the weather for one large dragon - or two small ones if they're very friendly.

Inside
The inside of the cottage would make many think that it remains uninhabited. Very few personal items are on display, the table and chairs look unused, and even the small stove looks as if nothing's ever been cooked on it. The bedroom however is a clutter. The bed is pushed hard against one wall, a pair of chests crammed in alongside it. Clothes spill from the chests and onto the little floor that isn't taken up with the brightly painted crib that dominates the room.

History

"Well it ain't like I chose it." It could easily be Aliona's mantra considering how often she's spoken those words over the course of her life. Her life, in general, has been fairly simple. Born into a group of travellers she's seen more of the world than a lot of people ever manage, but at the same time she's had far less education than most as well. It was a stop at Ista that turned her mostly happy life upside down.

While the rest of the group sold their wares, bartered, and in some cases made nuisances of themselves, Aliona did what she does best - showing off. One of the first things she ever learned was to ride and perform some tricks, and she was standing on the back of her runner when it caught a foot in a hole and stumbled, gifting her with a personal introduction to the Istan soil. She landed badly, dislocating her shoulder and requiring time in the infirmary immobilised. The travellers moved on without her, leaving behind a promise to send word from each stop so that she could beg a ride and catch up to them, or they would collect her again when next they came to Ista.

Released from the infirmary she divided her time between the dock, the beach, and the lounge, generally getting under people's feet while waiting on the letter that seemed like it was destined to never arrive. Her favourite place eventually became the forest, specifically one particular tree that she liked to hang from and watch the world go by, and it was here that she was found the first time it was hinted at that she needed to become a more pro-active member of the weyr. It was never an order, only ever hints, but she eventually gave in and sought out an assistant headwoman who was all too happy to give her a resident's knot and set her to work. For anyone that asked she still insisted it was only temporary, but after she was asked to stand for the clutch that appeared on the sands temporary became something much more permanent.

Candidacy was not the fun that Aliona had envisioned it would be, especially when her family turned up and demanded she leave with them. Despite her father's insistence she stayed, but that meant that so did her family, and the plateau became their temporary home. To say their stay was less than pleasant was something of an understatement, and the constant arguing while she remained a candidate almost made her hand in her knot several times.

Hatching time came and went and while her friends Impressed Aliona was left standing. This time when her father insisted she leave, she went. It was a shock to many when she later returned with her runner in tow and declared that she was staying.

No matter how many friends she made, and how many jobs she took on (mostly temporary as she proved they were not a good fit) she could not shake off her roots. She still regularly practised her riding moves, and with the help of several riders she would sneak off to the caravan to spend time there. Settling down was not an easy thing.

Her luck took a turn for the better, initially, when she and S'u found a large denomination coin. The decision was made to split it, and led to the first time she had ever taken a 'boy' home to meet her family. Her father refused to do anything with the coin, her grandmother took a dislike to the young bronzerider, and the coin was eventually abandoned into the care of the goldriders. She often finds herself wondering what happened to it.

Most recently her feet have been becoming itchy again, and the perfect excuse to travel was found when a day's magnet fishing from the rocks pulled up an old box containing a key and a ring. Needless to say say she latched onto the mystery like a magnet, dragging S'u into her conspiracy theories and eventually into the process of locating the person the box belonged to so they could find out what really happened. She has decided it was murder and shipwreck, he is in favour of a more sensible solution, only time will tell if either is correct.

Companions

Talented Riding Runner Teba (Now returned to the family caravan)
Standing 12.2 hands high, this young mare is clearly the pride of her owner. Her pale grey coat is groomed to within an inch of its life, yet her dark tail and mane are allowed to grow as they will, both having an uneven edge and allowed to fly free. Her legs are powerful, a runner clearly used to working, and while the rear share the same pale colouring as her body, her front legs boast black socks to match her tail and mane.

Sunrise's Chipper Cheer Green Medley (Unseen since Aliona Impressed to Isanath)
Teeny, tiny. This little firelizard is almost petite, her short little snout blunted and snubby, the greens of her hide mottling in bands that make her look all the smaller. Itsy bitsy toes are on equally undersized feet, the talons at the ends a soft leafy shade, though the pointy tips indicate they're nevertheless quite sharp. A long tail at least adds a bit of length to an otherwise rounded body, fading about halfway down to a deeper, more teal-like hue. Wingspars are likewise darkened, the shadowed undersides almost mossy in appearance, though that same patterning is present to a lesser degree in half-circles of darkness just behind and below her jaw, the curve of her head mirroring it to a degree as well, but more subtly. It continues down her short neck, and over slender shoulders, wings compact but muscular, more than strong enough for flight with again a repeating, barely-visible design over the delicate membranes. Only the very middle of her chest and belly show a bit more brightness, like sun-dappled foliage it fades back into the overall mixture of similar colors toward her sides.

Cute and Fuzzy Brown Teddy
Short, fat, and proud of that, that describes this brown fire lizard to a tee. A certain softness seems to cling to him that has nothing to do with the even, medium brown hues of his hide, as excess weight seems to gather around his middle, around his limbs, and even cling to his tail. Wings are large enough to support his bulkier than average form, certainly, as khaki sails stretch between each spar, and facetted eyes are set deep on his flattened face - a picture of cuteness.

Mouldering Amongst The Mushrooms Brown Skellig
If one were looking for a single word that would best describe this firelizard, one might decide on 'grungy.' Thin almost to the point of being gaunt, no matter how much food he's given, his long body is all sharp angles and loose hide. A dirty, greasy sort of brown covers his head, mottled bits of sickly yellow giving a scaled appearance to the curve of his jaw below his eyes. Sliding down his neck, the colour pools into the monotone shade of a silt-heavy river in flood. These waters lap against the inadequate banks of his shoulders, a dull grey-brown mud that oozes down back and sides, dripping into the almost-black sludge of his underbelly. His long, whip-like tail seeks to escape these mucky environs, mottled fungus creeping over rotting wood. It's not until his wings are unfurled that any hint of majesty comes into his form. A rich cinnamon barred with faint hints of cream zigzags across diaphanous membranes, subtle patterning reminiscent of feathers. Sunlight kisses leading edges and wingspars, glowing against aged oak.

Sunny, Honey, Gold Paislee
The unusual shade of lustrous hide is unique in composition — its color warm, like mellow honey, so deep in hue that she appears near golden-brown, but for the muted accents of amber that dapple her body intermittently. A wash of golden iridescence gleams brightly amongst her head knobs and cascading over neck ridges - the color growing gradually murky before it finally melds into her shoulders. Her wings are like long forgotten silk, delicate yet imbued with strength in their structure, but unlike the rest of her, the underside of these fragile membranes is pale, wheaten gold — striking in contrast.

Dragon

Last Breath of Summer Gold Isanath
Sweeping expanses of rich amber gather upon the lengthy frame of this golden dragon, warm orange undertones peeking through upon every inch of her body, the first hints of autumn taking hold. Upon her long, almost dainty nose dance freckles of carrot orange, the markings continuing upwards from each nostril, sweeping over eyeridges and dissipating as they spread over each of her headknobs. Despite her delicate features, a certain curviness adorns her, what little excess weight she carries gathered in her hindquarters, giving her a rather off-balanced appearance. Limbs are practically too long for her form, as if she's outgrown the rest of her body, yet even in their awkwardness they are tipped with tangerine toes, the same bright color coloring the tips of wingspars as they stretch between wide sails. Saffron creeps across the translucent spreads, darkening to coral upon the edges, the hues of a setting summer sun trapped upon her very wings, mirrored upon the ridges that run to the tip of her lengthy tail.
